Remember those grammar-school
days when we drew crayon tur
keys on that rough beige-toned
paper, and everybody had different
ideas about what a turkey looked
like? Some were plain brown, but
some looked like they had just
flown from the rainbow; some
were fat, some were thin, some
were plucked and cooked and ready
to be eaten. And all were master
pieces.
"We sang "Over the river and
through the woods, to grand
mother's house we go," and drew a
scene on the blackboard with
colored chalk of horses pulling a
sleigh through snow and multi
colored trees. The scene was a good
one, too, because blackboards then
were really black. The class clowns
who are inevitable elements of any
schoolroom, would beat the com
petition by moving to the floor
with their chalk and making their
own individualistic mural. And
deep inside, each one felt that he
could draw a better horse than

could even use raisins and marsh
mallows to make them look more
like turkeys. And one of the clowns
was sure to hold up his lopsided
fruit bird and cry, "Know what
that looks like? It looks just like

in it!" And it did.

Chamber of Commerce in the ob
servance of Education Week, en
courages service and civic clubs to
use speakers from the University
and businessmen to hire Carolina
students as part-time workers, con
ducts guided tours around the
campus, holds Open House Week.

The USC News Service forms
the backbone of the Public Rela
tions Department. Through the
mass media the public is informed
of what the University is doing
and what it hopes to do. News is
distributed to all daily and weekly
newspapers in the state, to some
key newspapers in Ga. and N. C.,
to API and UP, to radio and T. V.
stations, to the Chamber of Com
merce, to the State Development
Board, and to some free lance writ
