Last week's pledging climaxed USC Girls Employed By Library As Apprentices In New Program Two University of South Caro lina students -- Judith M. Byrd and Rachel Anne Kempson - spent a profitable summer learn ing about what goes on in a pub lic library. Neither girl has finally decided upon a career, but both said they considered their summer work, part of the South Carolina State Library Board's Library Intern program, to have been very in teresting and beneficial. Both girls worked at the Richland County Public Library. Judith Byrd, who enjoys work - ing with children, says she would like to work in the children's de partment of a public library. She plans to look further at the op portunities in the library field. Rachel Anne Kempson espe cially likes the aspects of library work which deal with research. She says she was surprised at ou the many activities which take ut place in a public library. "There do is a great deal of activity not ye realized by the average person," ou she said. >m The Library Intern program, a as project of the State Library 1st Board, provides an opportunity for college undergraduates to ize work in a public library during .vn the summer months.
