Gamecocks
Birds Downed
In 2nd Half

Carolina seemed to be on their wa;
to another ACC victory Monda;
night, but the Maryland Terrapin
turned off their hot water and wen
on to win 51-44.
The Gamecocks had the crowi
sold on their slow and deliberat
ball handling and were leading th
favored Maryland ball club all th
way until the closing seconds of th
first half. The Terrapins at tha
point put on a quick three-poin
scoring play and deadlocked th
game at 20 all going into the half.
Jerry Greenspan was the mai'
factor in Maryland's' win, scorinj
20 points and hauling in numerou
rebounds. The 6-6 forward wa
awarded 10 foul shots and did no
miss one.
The Terps foul shooting as a tean
was somewhat fantastic also, mak
ing 19 of 23 for the night. Th
Gamecocks were as cold as Mary
land was hot, hitting on only fou
out of a possible 14 from the line.
High scorer for USC was Jir
Collins with 16, again relying o1
hard driving layups through talle
men for the majority of his sevei
field goals. Ronnie Collins, wh
Coach Noe says is very much im
proved from the first of the seasor
scored 11 points.
Shooting percentages were il
favor of Maryland, which cashed ii
on 57% of their shots from thi
Xfloor. The Gamecocks lowered thei:
game percentage considerably in thi
second half but came out with i
43% mark in spite of the lat,
barrage.
Carolina fans seem to be gettinj
used to Noe's slow down offens,
and are even enjoying it to som,
extent. Why the contrast from las
years fast-breaking team of Bol
Stevens? Considering the numbe
of players lost from that speed;
