p contribution to Fraternity en
rtainment.
The Greek Week Concert, which
st year starred the Four Fresh
en, brings another vocal group to
e spotlight: The Journeymen. The
chestra of Tommy Dorsey, under
e direction of Warren Covington,
ong with the piano stylings of
eter Nero are to highlight the

ic Greek Week informal dance.
Journeymen
One of the newest -- and some
iy the best - groups to appear
1 the scene during the rebirth of
ie folk music idiom call themselves
ie "Journeymen." After an appear
rice at the New York "Folk City"
stival, the trio signed with Capitol
ecords, and toured the college cir
ut. The Journeymen then hit San
rancisco's "hungry i," and were
rmly launched in a career that
osely follows that of their prede
ssors, the Kingston trio.
In fact, their resemblance to the
ingston Trio is more than skin
ep - their current manager is
so the one who spotted and pro
oted the Kingston trio. The man
er, Frank Werber, admits that
mparison with the Kingston trio
inevitable, but he commented:
"The Journeymen are so good
at I hope everyone has a chance
hear them . . . folk music was a
ecialized field until the Kingston
io came along, but their style
wakened a growing interest almost
vernight. Now there is a tremen
Dus interest and demand for really
ood singers who can do justice to
>lk music.
Develop Own Style
"The Journeymen do sing in the
ime idiom as the Kingston trio,"

conceded Werber, "but they've also
developed a fresh, new sound of
their own.
"Take my tip," said Werber,
"they're on their way to a marvelous
future."
The three singers who compose
the Journeymen - John Phillips,
Richard Weissman, and Scott Mac
Kenzie - met at a New York re
cording session. Phillips and Mc- i
Kenzie were there recording as
members of another vocal group,
and Weissman was a member of the
orchestra. According to the Journey
men's official biography, they dis
covered a mutual interest, and
sealed a deal over a cup of coffee
in a New York coffeeshop . . . and
have been singing since.
Combination of Talents
The Journeymen have the academ
ic background of the Limelighters,
the exuberance of the Kingston trio,
and the vocal equipment and skill
that equals just about anyone's
in the business.
Phillips, the leader of the group,
provides the background and re
search on folk music. Weissman's
background includes Philadelphia
Conservatory of Music training, and
seminars on the banjo at New York
City's school of Folk Music.
