Thanksgiving There comes a time in mid autumn when all stu dents make a great exodus from these ivy walls to the 3 warmths of their homes for a few days of festivity and thankfulness for their families, education and blessed opportunities. This season marks the beginning of the holiday season which will terminate January 1st of the new year. Many will see their families for the first time since coming to college in September. With them they will discuss the various things that could not fully be expressed in letters, or three-minute phone calls. In front of a crackling fire, with the wind howling outside, these students will reflect freedom, happiness. A vision of our forefathers seems to come to light . . . their lives filled with making a new country, a place for posterity to grow, to become that which they hoped for, a land of opportunity, a country like unto a beguiling woman - hands outstretched, welcoming the poor, the hungry, the lost. From the heart of America comes the burning fire, desire for a peaceful world, a better world. A world where kindness, human compassion will reign a queen. Where all men are free, equal and no dissension is caused by race, color, or creed. Where the black man, the red man, and the white man can cohabit peace-I fully. A horizon unlimited, standing for the Maker to watch over, to guide. A sky, uncluttered by hate, discord or bloody war. From the souls of the impassioned, enlightenment, peace. Meeting them in their pasture (Saturday) will be the Carolina Gamecocks - fiercely fighting for that feasible fortnight of glory. ; In the stands the latest fashions will be worn by the farm hands. Ringing their cowbells and "moo ing" their team on to nothing, they will be the epitome of something in their blue denium coveralls, and Texas sized straw (no not fifths but) hats. The typical buck-toothed tigress co-ed will tear your hearts to shreds in her tattered and patched, clean (?) but threadbare ensemble, delicately completed and :iven that chique look with her up side - side bucket (milk type) pes -hapeau. -im If the temperature in the stands m- rises slightly, the Clemson couple will spread Ma's blue ribbon patch work quilt over their knees. Even the cow hands have their problems what with the drinking of butter milk in the stands. As if that weren't bad enough, it seems that the potent cow juice is chased by onion sandwiches. After the animal contest, where culture shall once again reign su preme, the big question in mind for Howard's help will be "Whar do ya think we all oughta go for the big celery-bration? Wall, just cause we cain't be cheerful over this game, we can shore say we outdid that city type schrool in fashion. Carolina is winning by 20 p o i n t s. Frank Howard is pacing up and down in Aront of the Clemson bench. The only thing is, the bench is 30 yards lown the field. How did the bench move? The answer is readily apparent - the pool of water inundating the bench and the players downfield. One big tackle slipped off the bench and almost drowned. He's been the only serious casualty in the entire game. A new idea has been instituted in s t e a I i n g Clemson "rat hats." Several enterprising Carolina boys have replaced the concessionaires and are walking around in the stands. One boy collected 29 before he was spotted and was forced to run. The game has been stopped several times to let animals cross the field. They come through one gate and go out the other side. They actually know the right way but they do this for applause. An injury was recorded when several boys were parachuted down to try to steal the Carolina flag. However, the flag was stretched tightly and the boys were headed back up. Gravity prevailed and they made a return trip. After hit ting the ground, all they could say was, "It hurts." Frank Howard was visited in the dressing room after the game by reporters. He observed: "Effun we hadn't had 40 points scored on us in the last 15 minutes and if the referees had been on our side, we would have won.
