Whoopee! that came from the bronc rider; sizzle-pzzz
MOOoooo! that came from the poor little calf that just got
branded; YEOoooo - puff puff - Umphhh - * # # !!, that
was heard from the boy running from that Brahma bull,
which he was trying to ride; unfortunately, he wasn't run
ning fast enough!
Yes, sir, Planting cotton and playing pin ball machines are
not the only things that we "Southerners" do. Saturday
night (8:00), Nov. 17 at the J. & J. Ranch (Blythewood -
about 12 miles from Columbia), a group of Carolina students
are having a rodeo.
There will be some eight or ten events at this entirely
authentic western rodeo. Some of them are Brahma bull
riding, "bulldogging" (steer wrestling), bronc riding, calf
roping, breaking wild horses, trick riding, barrel racing
(girls), clowning and several shooting acts. All of the live
stock used in the rodeo will be certified by the Southern
Rodeo Association, so these kids won't be just playing
around with their next door neighbor's milk cow. A rough
night is ahead for this brave group - two accidents have
already occurred - Doc Howard and Alvin Dingle were
thrown while riding (probably a small Shetland pony), but
only received minor injuries; they will not see action during
the show.
This will be the first rodeo of its kind in the state which
features only college students. Practice has been held for
about a month now as the boys and girls have been learning
the "tricks of the trade." The girls, Carol Jones, Cissy Burg,
and Patsy Willis, will be competing in one of the more diffi
cult acts of the show - barrel racing. Three barrels will
be set in a triangular formation and these females will ride
in and out of the barrels. I guarantee you, there'll be a few
sore " " afterwards!
Clowns, Ed Hancock, Eddie Edwards, Bobby Fortson, and
Dave Murray, will be there as an added attraction. Some will
dress in their comical costumes - Ed will probably just
come as he is, though . . . their main duty will be to attract
the attention of the bulls _____________
after these beast throw their
victims over the corral fence,
or to just pluck horns out of NOW SHOWING
the riders. All in all, it should
be an interesting show!
The rodeo will last two
hours, and admission will be -F O "
$1.00 for adults and 50# for
students. Tickets can be ob- THEATRE . N N

Intramural football continued its s
hectic pace last week with nine
teams still undefeated. These teams
and their opponents were:
SAE won twice, first by a 45-0
score and then slipping by Kappa
Sig 13-7, to knock the latter team
from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Sigma Nu rolled past Kappa Al
pha 28-6 to push themselves into
a League I tie with SAE.
League II fraternity ball saw a
strong ATO team, led by quarter
back Tony Corder, upend Phi Delt,
33-0. In this game, Corder threw
four strikes for touchdowns. Three
of his aerials were gathered in by
Bobby Norton.
Phi Kap ran their winning
streak to three with an impressive
36-0 victory.
Also undefeated is Pika, which I
was idle this week due to a mixup
by the referees.
In the Independent League only
four teams were left with perfect
records.
