Clyde McPhatter, the featured
performer for Saturday's Home
coming Dance, at 8 p.m. at Town
ship Auditorium, is one of the
better-known performers in his
field today.
A native of Durham, N. C., he
began his career with Billy Ward
and the Dominoes. Among their
hit recordings were "Have Mercy,
Baby" and "These Foolish Things."
In 1953, McPhatter formed his
own group, The Drifters. Included
among the bestsellers recorded by
this group are "Money Honey,"
"Such a Night," and "Honey
Love."

A group of students are forming
a committee to petition against the
Slater System's food service on -
campus, the "Gamecock" learned1
this week.4
Chuck Farmer, a junior, who Isi
heading the group, said he hopes
to accumulate at least 1,000 signa- i
tures within the week. Copies of
the petition will be sent to Univer
sity officials, the Slater System,
and organizations on campus.<
"We have a strong complaint<
against the quality of the food -
served by Slater System," Farmer
said. "The food has been getting
continually worse and the quantity
has been getting smaller," he
stated. t

with the younger music lovers of
today.
Also appearing at the dance will
be the popular singing group, The
Clovers. These nationally known
performers have been appearing
recently at functions throughout
South Carolina. Their hits include
"Love Potion Number 9" and "One
Mint Julep."
Rounding out the Homecoming
talent are the Five Royales, whose
best known recording is "What's
