Critic Tommy Mann, brought the motion on the floor and presented some ten charges. The impeach ment was seconded by president pro tempore William Hinnant. A visitor, Jack Davis, made a motion that Mann be soused in the pool at South Dorm so that charges brought against him could be dropped. The motion was passed and carried out. John Howell and David White were designated as defense attor. ities in the case, with the prosecu tion led by Tommy Mann. Presid ing was Bill Hinnant. The donor is Carl Mc Clendon, a senior in the School of Journalism, who specified that the $500 would be used to purchase hooks for the University libraries in honor of Dr. Elliott. Over the past several years it has brought outstanding scholars, statesmen and publicists to the community to share their ideas and experiences. General theme of the 1962-63 series focuses attention on impor tant geographical and functional areas of crisis in foreign policy where the United States faces continuing dilemmas in discharg ing its responsibilities of leader ship in world affairs. The lecture series this year brings to the campus and to Co lumbia a panel of distinguished experts and speakers who have had varied backgrounds in public affairs and in the formulation of United States strategic and for eign policy. The first guest lecturer will be Stephen T. Hosmer, who heads the Washington office of the Social Science Department of RAND Corporation, one of the nation's foremost research organ izations on military technology and international affairs, partic ularly as they affect the mission of the United States Air Force. Dr. Hosmer, who has specialized in Southeast Asia Studies both at rig Gam Busy Sc monies. Its performance will be sparked by the antics of "The Coquettes," majorette corps at the University. The "Marching Gamecocks" will play for all home games of the football team. Reading Program Begins Wednesday ( The College Reading Program, designed to increase reading and study skills, begins Wednesday, October 10, according to Dr. Paul C. Berg, Director of the Reading Clinic in the School of Education. -. This developmental reading pro grain is a voluntary, non-credit course meeting on Monday, Wed nesday and Friday from October 10 through November 16 at 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Any University student may enroll without charge. The only cost in volved is the purchase of one book. All students who wish to enroll in this course must register on Monday, October 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in Room 211, School of Education. Students are urged to register early, since tIie Reading Clinic often has more ap plications for the College Reading Program than it can accept. This program has been carried on for several semesters. Numer ous students from the various de partments of the University have been enrolled. The average student enrolled in last year's program in creased his reading rate from 297 to .120 words per minute.
