The play, "BORN YESTER.
DAY," will be presented by the
Hadassah Players on Saturday,
February 3, at 8:30 p.m. in the
Dreher High School auditorium.
One night only.
Coming up in two weeks is the
Town Theatre production of Mae
beth. This production should be
the standout of the season as
there are some extra technical
touches in it. Gil Petroff, a promi
nent Columbia artist, has been
working on the sets. An original
musical score has also been written
for this production. Mr. Shakes
peare has never had it so good.
SPORTS
Outstanding POLO matches are
held every Sunday afternoon at
the Columbia Polo Field, Bluff

Berry St. John walked into the
"Gamecock" office, looked around
for a few minutes and decided that
he was in the right place. This
obvious fact could not be over
looked. Even if he hadn't known
where he was, what other office
would have typewriters strewn all
over, and have a tile floor covered
with yellow paper?
When Berry sat down and made
himself as comfortable as he could
be in a straight-backed chair with
no arms, his blue eyes widened and
he said, "What do you want to
know?" This was not a good ques
tion since a million different
things came to mind, and all I
could say was, "WellIl." After this
rip-roaring start things gradually
settled down, and I found out that
he was born December 14, 1940 in
Sanford, Florida. Well, that's al
ways good for a start.
After about fifteen minutes I
found out that Berry went to
school in Sanford and came to
Carolina on a Naval scholarship.
Here at Carolina he is majoring
in English and plans to graduate
in June.

that, along with all his outside
activities, Berry is also an expert
at apartment hunting. He and
David Watson have decided to live
off campus and within the last
few weeks they had been through
all the trials of finding a suitable
apartment. Berry said that he has
seen every size, shape and form of
apartment. He has been taken
through old shacks with cracked
ceilings, and new ones with wall
to-wall carpeting. The one he and
David finally decided on seems to
fit their every need, except that
it has no bookcases, lamps, or pots
and pans. According to the report
I heard, there are plenty of chairs,
but nothing else. If anyone has a
spare bookcase or two he would
love to have it. I don't think that
things are really as bad as they
sound, but if they are, then Berry
could always stack the books up
and make columns to hold up the
ceilings. Needless to say our boy
likes to read.
Among his other interests, Berry
likes to hunt and fish, but above
all he likes to fly. In fact, he is
thinking of making flying his
career when he finishes college.

he would either like to go to
graduate school and become an
English teacher, or go to Law
School and become a lawyer. What
aver he does, we know that it will
be done thoroughly and completely

In speaking of Berry's activities,
we can only quote what one man
has already said-"In giving, a
nan receives more than he gives,
and the more is in proportion to
the worth than the thing given."
From this I would say that Berry
should reap quite a few fruits be
ause lie has given quite a lot to
the University. He has given his
time and effort to the causes he
reels do something to make Caro
lina a better University. He is
active in the Student Senate,
chairman of the Student Union,
was on the Drill Team, has been
platoon commander and a staff
officer in the N.R.O.T.C., and is
in the Compass and Chart Society.

that likes fun, he is in PiKA, and t

same. He has also served as a
member of the I.F.C., and on the a

Berry has very serious ideas
about life and school. He thinks
that as students we are here to
study and that anything that de
tracts from this should be done
in moderation or done so that
studies get their share of the time.
A few minutes ago, as I was
typing this story, the society editor $
decided that we needed a picture
of Berry . . . so off we went, in r
a borrowed car, to find him. Don't c
say that it would have been easier
to call him, because we tried that; t

Back to the interview. Berry

Of course, Berry likes his

ier the Navy sent him to Corpus
