Rule 5. Senators shall stand when
speaking.
Senators, while speaking on any
matter whatsoever, shall be re
quired to stand and first address
the President. Provided, however,
that if it shall be or become ex
tremely difficult or impossible for
a Senator to stand, due to any
physical injury or disability, this
Rule shall be waived insofar as it
affects the Senator in question.
Rule 6. Writing and withdrawal
of motions.
When a motion shall have been
made, it shall be reduced to writ
ing, if requested by the President
or any Senator, delivered to the
table, and read before the same
shall be debated. Any motion may
be withdrawn by the mover at any
time prior to a vote thereon.
Rule 7. Motion to reconsider.
No motion to reconsider any
vote shall be in order except on
the day of original consideration
by the Senate. Reconsideration
may be moved only by a Senator
voting with the prevailing side.
Rule 8. Motion to adjourn and to
table.
Motions to adjourn and to lay
on the table shall be decided with
out debate.
Rule 9. Standing Committees.
The following standing commit
tees shall be appointed by the
President, with the approval of a
majority of the Senate at the
earliest possible date after a
newly elected Senate assumes of
f ice:

Traffic and Safety
Elections
Student Speakers Bureau

Homecoming

Rule 10. Committee reports.
Committee reports shall be ren
dered by the Committee chairman
or his appointee as often as the
Senate shall request, and each
Senator has the privilege of re
questing and obtaining a report
from any committee during any
regular meeting of the Senate.
Committee reports not requested
from the floor but offered volun
tarily by the Committee shall be
in writing. Provided, that this pro
vision may be waived by the Presi
dent upon request by the Commit
tee member reporting.
Rule 11. Motions and resolutions
by committees.
No motion or resolution shall be
introduced in the name of a Com
mittee except wvith the approval of
a majority of the members of said
committee at a duly called meet
ing of the said committee. The
Committee Chairman shall certify
that this rule has been complied
with.
Rule 12. Appeal from decision of
the President.
Senators shall have the right of
appeal from decisions of the
President, provided it shall require
a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the
Senators present to override any

Rule 13. Amendments to motions
and resolutions.
Any motion or resolution may
be amended by vote of a majority
of the Senate. Provided, however,
that the amendment becomes sub
ject to later approval or disap
proval of the entire motion or
resolution.
Amendments offered from the
floor become the property of the
Senate and no permission to
amend need be obtained from the
sponsor of the original motion or
resolution.
Rule 1.1. Amendments must be
germane.
No amendment shall be inserted
in a motion or resolution unless it
relates to the general subject of
the motion or resolution. Ques
tions as to relevance of any
amendment shall be decided by
the President.
Rule 15. Order of business.
The order in which the Senate
shall conduct its business shall be:
Call to order by the President
prayer by the Chaplain, Roll Call
Reading of the minutes, Commit
tee reports. Old business, New
business, and Adjournment
Provided, that the Senate may
deviate from this prescribed ordei
of business by a two-thirds (2/3)
vote.
Rule 16. Executive sessions.
When a majority of the Senate
shall consent, the place of meet
ing shall be cleared of everyone
but Senators, the President, the
Vice-president, the Secretary, th4
Treasurer, and the Chaplain.
The purpose of executive ses
sions shall be to discuss confiden
tial or executive business, an<
matters decided in such sessior
shall be nowhere published, unlesE
by consent of a majority of the
members present at such session.
Rule 17. Suspending and amend
ing rules.
Any of the Senate Rules may be
temporarily suspended by unani.
nious consent of the Senate. All
permanent amendments, rescis
sions, or repeal of any of the
above Rules shall be considered
by the Senate only after at least
one week's notice of intention to
offer changes in the Rules, and
all such permanent changes shall
require a two-thirds vote of the
total membership of the Senate.
The Secretary of the Student
Body shall record these Rules ir
a permanent volume which shall
be present at all meetings of the
Senate.
