Accredited
The School of Journalism has
been reaccredited by the American
Council on Education for Journal
ism, the dean of the school an
nounced recently. .
Dean G. A. Buchanan, Jr. said
John E. Stempel of the University
of Indiana, secretary-treasurer of
the council, commented on the "fine
teaching of the faculty" and "the
professional attitude of the students"
in the School of Journalism.
The reaccreditation was voted in
a meeting of the council April 23 in
New York City. Also reaccredited
were the journalism schools of Bos
ton University, Columbia Univer
sity, University of Kentucky and the
University of Tennessee. First-time
accreditation was voted for the
journalism schools of University of
Maryland, University of Southern
Illinois and University of West Vir
ginia.
The Carolina School of Journalism
has been accredited since 1954.
The reaccreditation resulted fol
lowing inspection of the School of
Journalism by a team representing
the council. Dean Quentus C. Wil
son of the University of West Vir
ginia was chairman, and members
were Loye W. Miller, editor of the
Knoxville (Tenn.) News-Sentinel,
and Baskett Mosse of Northwest
ern University.
