Busy Year
Ka leido
BY JOAN WOLCOTT
Aasistant Feature Editor
It's been a busy year . . . at
tested by headlines of the "Game
cock." Calendars have overflowed
with activities since freshman "Y"
camp, and next semester promises
to be even more action-packed. Many
organizations and names have been
consistently newsworthy. Below is a
kaleidoscopic preview and review of
a few of this year's events.
Winning is a habit of the USC
debate team. Beginning with the
Kentucky Thoroughbred Tournament
in October, in which it coped second
place, the team has won much ac
elaim. Placing first in both the Dixie
Classic and the 16th Annual Caro
lina Forensics Tournament, the de
bators were victorious also in the
University of Miami National In
vitational Debate Tournament and
the Heart of America Tournament,
among others. The USC team again
came out on top in the tournament
held here last week.
As it was last September, the "No
Vacancy" sign on student housing
is dangling. The lack of space seems
to be a never-ending problem. The
USC expansion program will be an
even bigger news item in the future.

Dear Mama,
I know it shore has been a lon
time since I have written to you
letter, but things around here is E
confusin, that I just ain't have g(

about them. But, don't worry non,
Mama, cause I been spending all c
my time that I hadnt been going I

They is just so many things I
tell you about the things that happe
around here, that I'll just have I
wait til I get home to dear old Men

about my first year in college.
But, I will tell you about or
thing in particuler, and that is abot
the craby Bicycle Race they had ot
here. You see, they is this race wiI

s But the memory lingered and fi
e lingers. On the night of April in
r1st. there were 19 produc- w

were 1,960 versions by amateur I

I- Almost every country in the

o You see, the only way they could

corner and wN> should emerge but

n Huss. The way he rides a bicycle is
, slightly reminding of the way that
old Jed Slogan rode "Matilda" in
the 1928 Mule Derby, and pulled
acool seventh place. (Except Russ
wasn't as fired up on mash as "Ma
it tilda" was) Well anyway, the race
t was real exciting and lots of people
h that trained by drinking "cokes" was
d soreput and flaked out.
Guess what? We won! Yes, Russ
got the trophy, Sigma Omega Beta 0
got the prize (two kegs of cokes), a
and Ray got the starter.
Well I got to run, we are having
a big "Pre-exam" Blast to get ready
for finals, and if I'm going to pass el
