Student Council Minutes
May 1, 1961
The regular meeting of Student Council was called to order by President John
Chappell. 'I e minutes were read and corrected to read: "Ernest Willis asked if tu
dent Counoil was to appoint the new Freshman Orientation Counselors (rather than
Committee), and over two ablsences per seiiester expell a member

Student Disvount Committee: Jiminy Mann, chairman, reported that he had been
unable to complete his report. but that he will attempt to complete (he report be
tole next year. He said that the program had been unsuccessful in the past because of

Several Carolina students will
perform in the Columbia Folk
Festival to be staged at the
Dreher High School auditorium
Friday, May 12, at 8 p.m.
Included in the program are
The Jumbucks, who recently par
ticipated in the Student Union
Talent Show; The Jesters, who
have performed at basketball
games and "Y" luncheons; Helen
Wooten, who placed first in the
Tralent Show.
Also in the program are Bill
Savage, blues guitarist; Valarie
Powell, who will do a Russian
Folk Dance; The Rum Runners,
a trio led by Bill Sigmons; Joaline
Clare, a Columbia College student
from Panama who plays the
guitar; and Gary Nichols, who
perforns weekly at the Purple
Onion.
