squ irrel-watching.
It is, of course, the annual visitor
to the campus, Spring Fever.
But, the big difference this annum
is the sudden rise in the trend to
jUst get away from it all and take
off to the wild blue yonder. That is
the Wild Blue Yonder of "Freedom"
freedom of no classes, no study
ing. and no responsibilities.
Middle-Week Jaunt
Strangely enough. the break in the
continuum of the enidless stream of
(Luizzes and notes seems to have a
good effect on the escapist. Stranger
still, the escapist seems to benefit
more from taking a trip to the Wild
Blue Yonder in the middle of the
week, when classes are going full
blast, than from the usual week-end
jaunt.
It seems to relax one to jump in
a car and head for the open road
when one should be in the middle of
a serious lecture. taking garbage

The places where these lost souls
with the spirit of wandering adven

are few and far between. You may
find them sattered across the face
of the earth in various places of
relaxation, and in various stages of
slunbering rest.
Fishing Time
There are many different types
of "middle-of-t le-week escapists."
The first of these is the year-round
fi>herman. Lo and behold, no matter
wiha day of the week it is, or how
Ilany "Do-or-Die" hou. exams occur
on the following day, if the Fisher
man feels that certain itch in his
soul, he is off to the shores of

Duck-Ilunter. Carefully, he stores his
precious collection or assorted decoys
that has stockpiled in his closet next
to his set of "Charles Atlas" weights
during tie long winer. At the first
sign of Spring, regardless of the fact
that he has an hour exam in Mar
keting the next day, he jumps into
his coupe and drives off into the
setting sun to answer the call of the
wild.
Of the many afficianados of
"Escapism," none are se positive in
their love of the great outdoors as
the hero of the shotgun. lie stands
for houirs with carefree abandon in
the freez'ing slush of a blind, hoping
again.st hope that some swayfaring
duck will hear his now-perfect
imitation of the mating call and
comeh rnn ning (or winging, as the
case may be). Ali, for the life of the
fearless Duck-ln1ter.
The types of escapists are count
less, but they all hold true to the
standards15 of the remaining member
that we shall mention.
Perfect Escapist
This iiember, above all, has
achieved perfection in his field. He
is the epitome, the height of Escap
ism. lIe, alone, has mastered the
fine art of cutting all of his middle
of-the-week classes to the point that
each of his instructors has long
ceased to call his name.
You may find this specimen of
perfection at oe of a dozen of the
worlds finest vacation spots, clad in
he regalia of the professional vaca
tioner. Ile will probably be sur
roUnded by nuny members of the
ppositt sex and will most likely be
engaged in ain illustrated lecture on
the fine art of getting away from it
all.
And so, you see, the life of the
vagabond, he he of the weekend or of
the escapist variety, is filled to over

At 10:00 I left, with two other
'Romans," to take my date home.
[That is, her real home, which was
.30 miles away!)
Perfect Escort
At 10:15 my date turned around,

I stopped the car, unconsciously

At 11:00, after four telephone calls
mid some fast talking, we again left

At 11:45 BANG!!! . . .
At 11:47 1 opened the trik and
liscovered that I (lid not have a jack.
Oh well, jacks probably had not

tomans, anyway.) Inunediately, I

At 2:00 we arrived "home," the

South Carolina.
At 2:15 we sat down (And that's

Paul converted his toga to a night

New Dawiiing
Sunday, March 19.
At 7:30 a.m. we were awakened
by the delectable odor of coffee and
bacon. We got tip and got dressed.
At 7:40 we walked into a deserted
kitchen and found two empty plates
and a note: "Mother and Dad have
gon:e to church. Please wash these,
too." Oh well, at least it said
"6please."
At 11:30 we dived head-long into
the mighty Chech . . . Well, anyway,
we went swimming.
At 11:35 we sprinted back to the
trailer and had another cup of (very
hot!!!) coffee.
Scenlic Sights
At 2:00 we got in the car to go
4ightseeing at a nearby plantation.
At 3:00, after 15 miles of a glori
