Republican Predictions Although the Senator was in correct in predicting his own fu ture, he wias exactly right when he discussed the Republican candi date. lie said that Richard M. Nixon seemed to have the inside track for the Presidential spot on the GOP ticket. lie added that no two or three Diemocrats loomed as logical con tenders for the position of nomi Ie. Kennedy said that the trip to receive the honorary degree was his first visit to the University campus. le had been stationed in Charleston, S. C., however, when lie served in the Navy dur ing the war. No Controversy To some of the other questions during the conference, Sen. Ken nedy seemed to abandon the policy of straight forwardness that char acterizes his interviews today. Perhaps, by refusing to use the cominencenient services to stir 'up controversy, he was simply being courteous to the state and Univer sity which had just honored him. Others, however, give a differ ent reason for his avoiding certain questions. "The State" newspaper used it as the basis for correctly predicting t h a t Sen. Kennedy would he a candidate for the Presidential nomination. In an editorial the newspaper said that "the personable young man f r o n Massachusetts-defi nitely g i v e s the impression of jockeying for the pole position for the 1960 Democratic Party prize."
