UNC Publicity Director
One of the big questions at the
University of North Carolina and
the ACC is: Will Doug Moe be
eligible for the ACC scoring title
should he compile the best average
in the league?
The can-do-everything Moe has
participated in only 10 games,
and that's just half the number of
contests other ACC players will
have been in. However, there is a
possibility that UNC will play
three games in the ACC tourna
ment, which will make him eligible
for the title.
No Ruling Known
Moe was ineligible to play the
first semester. There are no known
written rules concerning how much
a player has to play to be consid
ered for season's scoring honors.
At any rate, Moe, in the games
he has played in, has nearly revo
lutionized the Tar Heels' offensive
style of play. The 6-5 dynamo has
been posted mostly in the pivot
and it has become the object to
feed him the ball. And once Moe
gets the ball in his grasp the
poker-faced gent is suddenly trans
formed into a madly gyrating blur
who quick as a rabbit has ma
neuvered through as many as three
defenders to get away one of his
fantastic shots.
Proves Versatility
The lad with the ambidextrous,
t h o u g h unorthodox moves, can
play the backcourt equally as well
and consistently befuddles oppon
ents with his uncanny feints and
drives. Moe has been the hottest
number in the conference lately,
rebounding and scoring his way
to the great respect he commanded
last year when he made All-ACC
and the second team on the Sport
ing News All-America.
At present, he is averaging 17.6
a game, tops in the loop.
Coach Frank McGuire says of
Moe, "Just wait. He'll get better
yet."

Full Data
A new book about basketball,
"Collegiate Basketball: Facts And
Figures On The Cage Sport," is
the result of a strange hobby.
Statistical research has been, for
many years, a u t h o r Edwin C.
Caudle's exacting a n d exciting
avocation. He combined this with
a great interest in basketball and
has spent all his free time for
many years gathering the perti
nent facts about the sport from
numerous and widespread sources.
This statistical history contains
all the verifiable data on collegiate
basketball from the very beginning
of the game through the 1958-59
season. The 6-4 auit h or, who,
strangely enough, never had any
particular yen to play basketball
has gleaned his information from
magazines, yearbooks, guides, col
lege records, officials, coaches, and
newspapers. He says he began with
the current year and worked back
wards, finding the going easy at
first. But basketball never had the
coverage of football, so the further
back Mr. Caudle went in his search
for facts, the more incomplete
he found the records.
When he was satisfied that he
had gathered all possible informa
tion, he began sorting and classify
ing and discarding unproved items.
The original purpose of his re
search was the "relaation and en
joyment of an actively followed
hobby." But then he in turn began
receiving requests for information,
and the idea of a book was born.
It is highly recommended read
ing for all basketball enthusiasts.
