This was set up in 1939 and awarded by the late Lionel Weil of Golds boro. The award was continued by his son, the late Lionel Weil, Jr., and is now being perpetuatedl by Mrs. Courtney Mitchell, .Jr. Bill Latham of Souh Carolina won the Weil Mile in 1959. Al Bunge, the Matyland scoring ace, sparked the Terrapins to their victory by collecting 22 points and 20 rebounds. The leaders for the Gamecocks were Bobby Robinson with 17 and Art Whisnant with 14. Birds Clinch Fifth By losing this game, the Game cocks lost their shot at fourth place in the ACC hut clinched fifth place. Maryland finished the' season by capturing third place. Wake Forest has built Its team around a fine group of sophomores this year, in the persons of Len Chappell and backcourt whiz Billy Packer. Seniors Dave Budd and George Ritchie have provided the squad with experience. Another sophomore-laden quintet is Mary land's Terrapins. Guards B r u c e Kelleher and Paul Jelus are the outstanding first year men, while Jerry Bechtle and Al Bunge give the team needed punch. On the lower rung of ACC stand ings ,standouts from N. C. State this season have been captain Dan Englehardt, center Bob "Moose" DiStefano, and forward Don Galla gher. Virginia's Cavaliers boast such stars as Anthony Laquintano, John Haner, Walter Densmore, Bob Mortell, and ACC scoring competi tor, Paul Adkins. Coach Press Maravich's Clemson Tigers, though resting close to the cellar in the final accounting, have shown a great deal of versatility and talent t h i s year, mainly through the efforts of Choppy Patterson, T o m Mahaffey, and George Krajack.
