as Carolina's Best Dressed Girl
for the "Glamour" magazine con
test to be held March 1, 1960.

ident of IFC.
After the decision Monday aft
ernoon, Gerry was photographed
in an off-campus daytime outfit
and an evening dress outfit for
pictures to be sent to "Glamour"
magazine. The picture on this
page will represent her in an
on-campus outfit.
Gerry's Activities
Gerry is a senior in the school
of education and plans to begin
a teaching career in the primary
grades next fall. Some of her
school activities include: Kappa
Delta sorority, varsity cheer
leader, Student Union Commit
tee, International Relations Club,
and Westminster Fellowship.
Also, Pep Club, and a counselor
for Freshman Orientation. She
was recently chosen Sweetheart
of Sigma Chi social fraternity
and a finalist in the Miss Garnet
and Black contest.
Recreation Is Fun
For recreation Gerry enjoys
water skiing, swimming, sailing,
and tennis along the sports line.
She also enjoys dancing and mu
sic, both popular and classical.
She loves to travel and spent last
summer working at Yellowstone
National Park.

tion and plans to do secretarial
work upon graduation. Among

she has held the offices of record

She is a varsity cheerleader
and is active in several other
campus organizations. She came
in second place in the College
Campus Queen for South Caro
lina in which she represented the
University.

the school of journalism and is
past vice president of Zeta Tau
Alpha s o c i a 1 sorority. Other

cabinet, AKG, Who's Who, and
columnist for the "Gamecock."
If She Wins
If Gerry is one of the ten
finalists in "Glamour" magazine's
national contest she will spend
two weeks in New York in June
with the magazine acting as host.
These two weeks will be filled
with parties and modeling en
gagenients, with all the trim
mings which make up a perfect
vacation.
Of course Gerry is excited
about winning the contest, and
when asked her first reaction she
exclaimed, "I wasn't expecting
it! I was so surprised and excited

discovered that Gerry-has had
some previous modeling experi
ence. While in high school, she
modeled back to school fashions
for J. P. Condon's store. She rep
resented her high school as one
of the representatives from the
Charleston area schools.
She has been in several fashion
shows in the vacinity of her home
and has posed for a few fashion
pictures for the Charleston pap
ers and the "Gamecock." In the
spring of 1958 Gerry was one of

Gerry recalls that she dreamed
of becoming a model, as most
girls do at one time or another.
After writing a research paper
on the subject for a home eco
nomics class, . she changed her
mind and decided on a teaching
career. She said modeling for
photographs for this contest has
been fun, as well as an honor to
be Carolina's representative.

campus, I was really surprised
at the manners of the young
ladies and gentlemen ( ?); now,
I am astounded to say the least!
These people, students of dear
old Carolina, don't know the first
thing about manners.
Maybe you should start an
Emily Post column in the paper.
You might do well to verse the
students on such small things
as: manners at the dinner table
(specially on Sundays), opening
the car door for girls, and the
girl waiting for the car door to
be opened.
I think that we could do with
out some of the loud, boisterous
talking (?) heard around the
campus. Then too, some of these
