Job Hunting
ABC's Give
Good Advice
"Sell" yourself. Be confident.
Have the right attitude in want
ing to make good at a job.
Analyze what you really like
to do best. Study your interests.
Be prepared to talk about them
during an interview. Knowing,
then, that the first product you
have to sell is yourself, you must
then find the inarket for your
self.
It is advisable to write to per
sonnel directors of companies in
the area that interests you. State
your school record, and previous
work record, if any. State your
interests and service record in
school. Look for relationships be
tween past training or experi
ence and relate them to job de
sired.
First impressions count. Ar
rive at the interview five minutes
early. The intervIewer will re
spect your interest. Lateness is
a b)ad strike against you to begin
with.
lHe dlefinite in your answers to
the interviewer. Think before an
swering a question. Be confident,
enthusiastic, but don't bluff. Use
goodl English, and speak dis
tinctly. But don't talk too much.
Listen carefully, lie polite and
tactful.
Show interest in asking about
the company and its operations.
D)on't argue wvith the employer.
Dion't mention personal problems,
ho,me, or money problems. Don't
say "I'll take anything." Be flex
ible and willing, but indicate your
preferences.
Having "hurdled" the experi
ence of your first interiew you
have now learned the ABC's of
job hunting. Because you've
learned, too, that you may not
get the first job you seek keep
up your courage, perserverance,
andl "keep at It."
