ftrin Monds Camp Sigma Nu Defends Top Spot The Fraternity League One foot ball championship will be decided this afternoon when SAE tackles Sigma Chi at 4 p.m. on Davis Field. Each team has won four games and lost none. Earlier, they played to a 26-26 tie at the end of the regular game; darkness pre vented a playoff. In Fraternity League Two Sig ma Nu took the title with five victories and no defeats. Kappa Alpha finished second. Preston wrapped up the Indepen dent League crown by defeating Maxey Brotherhood . Pres ton went undefeated in five games this season. Tenement Six finished second with four victories and one loss. Playoffs are scheduled to get under way December 7 with the first place team in each league meeting the second place team in the other league. The Fraternity Championship game will be played December 11. Present plans call for the Fraternity champs to meet Preston, the independent winner before Christmas holidays to de termine the Campus Champions. Mauney Selected For All-American Award by Carolina Harold Mauney, t h e regular quarterback on Carolina's football teams in 1932, 1933, and 1934 has been nominated for "Sports Il lustrated's" S i I v e r Anniversary All-America. Mauney is now resident vice president of S o u t h e rn Railway with headquarters in New Orleans, La. During the three seasons Mau ney guided the Gamecocks, they won 16 games and lost 11 with three ties. Two of his finest games were against Auburn in 1932 and 1933. The Gamecocks tied Auburn 20-20 the first year, and beat the Plainsmen 16-14 in 1933. The S i l v e r Anniversary All America awards are based on dis tinguished living d ur in g th e twenty-five years intervening since college football playing days of the nominees. Mr. Mauney was nominated for this honor by the University. Sev enty-one candidates h a v e been nominated from all over the coun try for this year's awards. The 1959 winners of the "Sports Illustrated" contest will be an nounced this month. Professional T4 Four Gamecoc The University of South Caro lina placed four on the top choice list in the National Professional Football League's draft session this week. Many of the drafted players have previously been chos en by the newly organized Ameri can Football League. The nation's top college player, according to the draft board, is Louisiana State's All-American halfback Billy Cannon, who will play for the Los Angeles Rams next year. Tops on the list from U.S.C. is Kirk Phares, blockbusting tackle. Phares is a 6-2, 227 pounder from Norfolk, Virginia. Kirk was the seventh choice of the Green Bay Packers. Intramural Bowling Set This Month Plans for the Intramural bowl ing championships are now being formulated by the intramural of fice. There will be three nights of bowling to determine the champs. Matches were originally sche duled for the 14, 15, and 16 of this month, but had to be rescheduled due to conflicting dates with other campus events. Star Bowling Lanes is interested in hosting the bowl ing matches. Definite plans will be released next week.
