KAPPA DELTA On October 23, 1897 at Long wood College, Farmville, Vir ginia, Mary Summerville Sparks, Julia Gardiner Tyler, Sara Tur ner, and L e o n o r a Ashmore founded Kappa Delta sorority. The slogan "Live Fair, Play Square, Hit the Line Hard," has followed ' all K a p_p a Delta's through life as something to go by to build the kind of character the world needs today. In 1904, Kappa Delta Sorority was in corporated as a national organi zation under the laws of Virginia. Beta Zeta chapter of Kappa Delta was founded in 1940. At that time, it became a part of Beta North Province which in cludes the University of North Carolina, High Point College, University of G e o r g i a,.. and Queens College. Now, the white rose, and the colors of olive green and white are an outstanding part of the University of South Carolina. In 1919, the Chapter House Loan fund was established; in 1921, aid to the Crippled Chil dren's Hospital at Richmond, Virginia was adopted as the na tional philanthropy; in 1923, the Endowment Fund was created. Truman; Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice; Chester -Could, the cre ator of Dick Tracy; and Frankie Lane. * * * MAXCY BROTHERHOOD In 1953, Dr. Patterson and a group of students in Maxey dor mitory organized a group with the sole aim to cut down damages done to Maxcy dormitory. The outgrowth of this organization was purely social. In the spring of 1954, it officially became a social organization with a thought ESSO RESEA. Chi Omega Announces New Slate New officers of Eta Gamma chapter of Chi Omega have been announced for the coming year. Vicki Rumph is -president and vice-president is Mary Alice Cloyd. The Brotherhood acquired a lounge in Maxey dor mitory in 1954. In the fall of 1655, the entire Brotherhood moved to Tenement 10. Three years later, they again moved, this time to Snowden where the majority of the group's members live. To Snowden recently has been added a lounge for the use of all Maxcy Brotherhood members. The pin worn by the members of the Brotherhood is of great interest. The pin's base is black, bordered in silver with the silver letters M B on it. The letter B is superimposed upon the M to sig nify that brotherhood is more important than the name of the organization. Below these letters is a zircon which signifies light shining out of darkness of igno rance, this light brought about by brotherhood. The Delta on the pin represents fidelity, equality, and fraternity. The symbol of the handshake represents fellow ship. The Brotherhood g i v e s a Christmas Dance for its mem bers; holds a spring In-Out Dance for the new members coming in and the old members graduating. They have an all day barbecue someim4 in the spring, as well as a Bermuda party. ON "LITTLE WEDNESDAY" each year before the "Big Thurs day" festivities a unique part of the parade given is the Gamecock Chariot reigned over by Waldo, the Gamecock. This activity is part of the Maxcy Brotherhood part in the holiday weekend.
