To Visit Carolina
Beginning at 4 p.m. next Mon
day Dr. Ernst Cloos will give a
series of lectures at the University
speaking on the structure of the
Appalachians on the first two
days. At 11 a.m. Wednesday, his
subject will be microtectonics, ex
amination of minute rock features
to obtain clues to larger structures,
and in the afternoon he will accom
i)aniy geologists and geology stu
dents on a field trip to Lake
Murray.
Thursday, Dr. Cloos will speak
at 4 p.m. on the structural geology
of Germany, and at 8 p.m. he will
adldress Sigma Xi on the applica-.
tion of geophysical methods.
He will be heard at 11 a.m. Fri
day on the subject of rock .fabrics,
andl at a 1 p.m. faculty luncheon.
Hie will discuss the contribution of
geologists to the national economy
at the luncheon.

Jazz Show
WUSC campus radio station will
feature a modern progressive jazz
show beginning next week, Bill
Goforth, program chairman, has
announced. The hosts for this new
program will be Joe Jordan and
Bernie Friedman.
The show will feature artists
such as Frank Sinatra, Miles
Davis, Max Roach, Louis Prima,
and Gerry Mulligan. Students may
mail requests to the station for
this program, Goforth said.
Broadcast time will be from 7 to
8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays,
and Fridays.
Sumwalt To Give
Honors Address
Dr. Robert L. Sumwalt, acting
president, will give the Honors
Day address at Lander College
today.
Honors Day is one of the major
events of the academic year at
Lander, and brings many parents,
friends and other visitors to the
campus.
Dr. B. M. Grier, president of
Lander, was the commencement

At Seminar
Charles F. Schwartz of the U. S.
I)epartment of Commerce and Dr.
Robert E. Sharkey, professor of
economies, will be two of the
speakers for the annual economics
seminar at the University, Dr.
A. G. Smith, head of the depart
ment of economics, has announced.
Schwartz will present the firs
seminar lecture Friday, March 20.!
Dr. Sharkey will lecture in April,
Dr. Smith said.
Schwartz, assistant chief of the
National Income Division of the
Office of Business Economics, will
discuss aspects of collecting na
tional statistics such as produc
tivity and income.
Prof. Sharkey will analyze the
relations of tariff imports and
exports to "the greenback." %
Although the seminar series is
held each year primarily for stu
dents of economics, others are
welcome to attend the lectures, Dr.
Smith said.
