Some people very close to the sports world feel that Tatum left Oklahoma as well as Maryland one jump ahead of the gun, and that there is much doubt as to whether or not he will remain at North Carolina very long after the time alloted by his contract. -The outcome of Saturday's con test will hold much more than the key to a possible ACC Champion ship. To enter the contest, all you have to do is clip the ballot below, mark your selections, enclose in an envelope, ad dressed to Sports Editor, "The Gamecock," and drop in the campus mail. No postage is necessary. The contestant chosing the most correct games will be awarded $5. In case of a tie, the contestant choosing the score nearest to correct on the given game will be declared the winner. Almost 150 students entered last week's contest, and the predictions were wide and varied. . The Winner Last week's winner was Billy McDonald, a Senior from Winnsboro, S. C. Billy missed only one of his predictions, and chose closest to correct score on the N. C.-Southern California game. A Carolina co-ed, Nell Mitchell, came in second. The game which seemed to throw most of the contestants was Saturday's bout between Illinois and two-time loser Duke. The Blue Devils edged out a 15-13 victory in a game which almost every contestant picked wrong. The scores of last week's games are as follows: North Carolina State 26, Virginia 14; Wake Forest 24, Florida State 27; Clemson 8, Maryland 0; Army 26, Penn. State 0; South Carolina 24, Georgia 14; Duke 15, Illinois 13; The Citadel 6, Davidson 8; Vanderbilt 0, Alabama 0 (tie); T. C. U. 12, Arkansas 7; Presbyterian 18, Wofford 14. THE RULES 1. All entries must be deposited in the campus mail by Saturday noon. 2. The person selecting the greatest number of winners will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, the person naming the score that is nearest to correct on a given game will be declared the winner. 3. No contestant shall be allowed more than one entry. 4. Members of "The Gamecock" staff are ineligible. 5. Contest is restricted to -USC students. 6. Winners will be announced each week in "The Game cock." The Cadets' surprise .he size of the score in that it -aught South Carolina off guard. The Gamecocks restored a lot of raith last weekend by knocking off i good Georgia team, 24-14, at Athens, Ga. The game with the Tar Heels 'his week will be their second eague test and give the Gamecocks i chance to have either a 2-0 or L-1 record in the ACC before meet ng title-favorite Clemson on Oct. 3. In the first three games the South Carolinians have demon strated clearly that they have one >f the nation's finest halfbacks ;andems in Alex Hawkins and King Dixon. Both have performed ,vell, with Hawkins gaining special recognition for his brilliant game igainst Georgia. Dixon's 136 yards leads the rushing, with Hawkins next at L24. A big boost to the Gamecock at -ack has been afforded by junior rullback John Saunders, who has ,un with inspiration and blocked ike a bulldozer. Running the team impressively it quarterback has been senior Bobby Bunch, who called a flaw ess game last weekend. Bunch ias scored three of the Gamecocks' 'ive touchdowns thus far. In the line the Gamecocks have -eceived excellent support from :ackles Don Rogers and Ed Pitts, ruards Corky Gaines and Jake Bodkin, center Lawton Rogers and mnds Jerry Frye and Bucky Walker n the starting alignment. Giese has been pleased with the verall effectiveness of the second mit, too. "They were able to stop the 'irst units of Duke and Georgia n key situations to contribute ,reatly to those victories," Giese >oints out.
