jINore Leads Gamecock Baseballers After 18 games the Carolina baseball team is presenting three players as contenders for, batting prominence in the Atlantic Coast Conference,. Top man thus far is shortstop Bunky Shore, the senior, from Winston-Salem, N. C., who has a .357 average to rank among the conference leaders. Shore has hit *safely 15 times in 42 times at bat. Not far behind is third baseman Ken Rosefield with a .847 average on 17 hits in 49 times up. Rose field leads the team in runs batted in with nine. Rosefield is a junior from Sumter. Outfielder B u d d y Nidiffer, tabbed by major league scouts as one of the ACC's finest profes sional prospects, possesses a .806 average on 11 hits in 86 times up. Six of Nidiffer's hits have been for extra bases, including three doubles and three home runs. The Gamecocks will attempt to improve on their conference record in games with Wake Forest at Winston4alem, N. C., Friday and North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N. C., Saturday. Phi Delta To Upsta, Sunday at the second field on the Newberry Highway, Phi Alpha Delta and Phi Delta Phi, Caro lina's two Legal Fraternities re newed their annual softball ri valry. The combatants assembled in front of the law school at 1:30 and proceeded to the field of ac tion from there. Since the refresh ments had ,been taken out earlier the game did not get under way until 2:45. The athletes, in various uniforms including a derby, varied-hued Bermudas, and bare feets, assumed their positions, the umpire hollered, "Flay Pall, I mean Fall play, Hall ball," was corrected, and the game com i menced. Phi Delta Phi, the defending champions and perenial favorites led off. They were retired in order. Phi Alpha Delta, facing the blazing fast-ball pitching of John Altman (reputed to be a ringer) were also retired in order.
