It is expected that the presence of Dave Sime in the Duke meet will create con siderable spectator interest. Sime is probably the greatest college sprinter today and one of the best of all times. New stands that will hold about 1,500 spectators are now being built and are expected to be com p)letedl by the opening meet. The track has been laid out so that every race will finish in the same place. The finish line is located in the front, middle of the stands so spectators will be able to get a good view of all races. Field events' will also be easily seen. Much p)reparation has been done on the track and field in an effort to have it ready in time for the opener and it is quickly rounding inlto one of the best in the coun try. "We've (lone a lot of pack ing on the track and it's in pretty good shape now," Coach Bask in saidl. Carolina will also boast some fine tracksters this season. Pericola entered the ACC tour nament last week needing onlg 16 points to tie the record and 17 points to break it. However, he managed only an 11-point effort against N. C. State in a losing cause and the loss eliminated the Gamecocks from further competi tion. The current record of 802 points is held by Jim Slaughter. Slaughter amassed his totals in the 1948-49 and 1949-50 seasons. Pericola scored 434 points last year as a soph and 363 this sea son for a combined total of 797.
