Tuesday, Dec. 10 and 11 Southern Bell Telephone and Driver Is New Prof In Nursing Miss Myra Sigourney Driver has joined the School of Nursing at the University as associate professor, according to Miss Amy E. Viglione, head of the Nursing 4 School. A graduate of Westminster High School, Miss Driver reeseived her nursing certificate from Belle vue Sechool of Nursing in New -York City. She eatned both the B3.S. dlegree and the M.A. degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. She also holds a O d(iploma' from the S'hool of Mid Owifery, Peninsula M a t e r n I t y Home, Cape Towvn, South Africa. Miss Driver was consultant nurse with the State Board of Health from July, 1954, until joining the University faculty-this fall. She has served as public health nurse in Oconee County. She holds a reserve commission in the U. S. Public Health Service as assistant senior officer. Wednesday, Dec. 12 Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company will be in the School of Business Administra tion to interview business admin istration majors. The California-Texas Oil Com pany will be in the School of Engineering to talk to mechanical engineers, chemical engineers, civil engineers and electrical engi neers. Thursday, Dec. 13 Representatives of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency will in terview electrical engineers, me chanical engineers, aeronautical engineers, physics majors and math majors in the School of Engineering. The Civil Aeronautics Admin ist ration will have representatives in the School of Engineering to interview mechanical and aero nautical engineers. Special Examinations An examin'ation for filling p)atent examiner positions located principally in the Patent Office in Washington, D. C., will be held by the United States Civil Service Commission. To qualify all ap plicants must have had appro priate education or technical ex perience in the fields of engineer ing, physics or chemistry. The entrance salaries range from $4,480 to $12,900 a year. For positions paying $6,355 and above, appropriate professional experi enee in the field of patent law is also required. Certain substitu tions are allowed for the profes sional experience required. Application forms and further information may be obtained from the U. S. Civil Service Commis sion, Washington 25, D. C. INCIPAL ADDRESS ia At F Donald S.,Russell gave the prin cipal address at the formal dedication ceremonies. Doctor Russell in his address lauded Florence's desire for a "real school." Beginning his dedicatory address, he said that when a group of Florentines came to Columbia to sell the university administration on the idea of opening a branch at Florence they encountered a "cool" atmosphere because "we didn't know what you wanted." Symbol Only "We feared you wanted the symbol of a college but not its substance and reality," he added. "But we quickly found you wanted a real institution." Finding this attitude, the uni versity was delighted to begin work towards opening the cen ter here last Spring, Russell declared. C., Dean Samuel L. Prince of the law school has said.
