Planned
Student Unift Committee's an
nual campus-wide Christmas
Dance has been--announced for
December 18 In the Russell House
cafeteria with music provided by
Tony Torre and his 18-piece band.
The dance is one of Student
Union's yearly projects and is
open free of charge to all Caro
lina students. Refreshments are
being furnished by the Slater

To Play
-Eight Carolina students will,
perform with the Columbia Sym
phony Orchestra in a concert to
be held at Dreher High auditor-.
lum tonight. The concert, first
of the season for the local or
chestra, will begin at 8:80 p.m.
The Carolipa musicians are
regular--members of the Colum
bia Symphony and have been
playing in the orchestra since
the beginning of the Fall semes
ter. They are Lavonne Bazemore,
trumpet; Bill Brittain, percus
sion; Jack Lengnick, flute; Rich
ard Lindell,. tympanny; -Harry
Orr, clarinet; Steve Patterson,
trumpet; Ann Thompson, flute;
and Woody Woodruff, oboe.
The Symphony will present a
program of "pop" music includ
ing the "Night on Bald Moun
tain" of Moussorgsky, "Perte

and Mrs. Donald S. Russell at their home and presented Mrs.
Russell with a bouquet of white roses in a farewell messageo
the President and his wife. Marchsing across the horseshoe
singing the fraternity marching aong, the Sigma Chi's formed
a eross and sang the "Sweethcart of Sigma Chi" to Mrs. Rusell.

Once u'pon n time at the University of Virginia there was'
a coed named, oddly enough, Virginia University who was
handsome and kindly and intelligent and ingeniously con
structed and majoring in psychology. Virginia went steady
with a young mian on campus named, oddly enough,
.Oddly Enough who was supple and fair and lithe and ani
mated and majoring in phys ed.
Virginia and Oddly enjoyed a romance that was as
idyllic as a summer day, as placid as a millpond. Never
did they fight-never, never, never!-because Virginia,
who was majoring in psychology, did not believe in fight-m
ing. "Fighting," she often said, "settles nothing. The soi
entific way is to look calmly for the cause of the friction."
So whenever she and Oddly were on the Verge of a
quarrel, she used to whip out a series of ink blot tests and
they would discover the true underlying cause of their
dispute and deal with it in an enlightened, dispassionate
