But n those hundred or more students n can't seem to find the change, courage or honesty to pay for the papers they take and read. The people that run this honor> newsstand, perhaps charitable is (1t eather's Fine does care. At least the student body doesn't sound as if it does. WHAT'S WRONG? What is the matter with the spirit at Carolina. Where did this apathy come from? Why did it start in the first place? Per haps I can bring.out a few com ments that have been heard. One thing that seems to be a general complaint is: Last year control football was effective, this year we can't get anywhere with it. The opponents gang up the middle of the line and Dixon, Hawkins and Johnson get smeared. Maryland threw an eight and nine man line against us and we were stopped. I for one am not an expert on the game but I do know what I like to see. I would like to see a little color and some more passing. We took Texas and dumped them on their heads. If our team was allowed to let loose with more galmblinig such as passing and wide end sweeps, instead of this steady grinding of two or three yards at a time, perhaps we could get the team some run tning room, or a good passing at tack. Another part this effigy has played. It has shown that sonme students still have enough spirit in them to fight for something they believe in. They were pro testing no so much Giese but the brand of footb)all he uses. THEY HEAVE SPIRIT I realize, too, that many of the a football players muay be highly I incensed over this little incident s but remember that those people, -contrary to pop)ular opinion, e wecre stating their inherent right -to say what they feel. If they did not care for Carolina or the team, they would not have both ered. They have spirit! Coach Giese, we are all behind you, BUT we want a win"ning team, and if they are colorful and lose that's still okay with us. It seems that in the three ball games we have lost the same strategy has been used and we still lost. Why not change the r tactics? is Football can be compared to it a war battle. No military man as would go into a battle with just e his infantry. Judas betrayed for pieces of eight . . . our paper thieves have their pieces of copper. It takes just five to betray a student body's honesty. . * * "Y" STUFFY? They really kicked it out at the Freshman "Y" luncheon on Monday. The more than 80 people ir attendance plus the migrants who wandered by the Russell House assembly room, received a tremendous charge out of the entertainment for the meeting. And of all things to have-a rock an' roll combo. If you ever again say thatine "Y" is stuffy . . . not with it . . . dry and uninteresting, you are wrong. Those kids are in. Real sharp. Here's a tip of the battered fedora to "Bru" and all of his staff, espaeially those re sponsible for keeping up with the times and swing of ihings. If you think that it is untaste ful and un-"Y" to have a jump ing meeting; you're back in the 19th century prudish years. Our "Y" is a modern group, man. Remember that Jesus fed the multitudes by the Sea of Galilee wvith a fish-and-bread give-away to keep themi there for the after noon's preaching, so why can't the "Y" draw 'emi and held 'em with rock an' roll. The "Y" is with it . . . are you?g * * * LIFE--FICKLE THING When the sun shines and peo p)le aren't getting rained on, they are happy. Oh, these .fair weather friends. But let the clouds and rains come for a time and they forget the good . . . the reat . . . the wonderful. They ) at straws; they toss dirty (Ldes anmd accusations; they scream and hiout; they act like children. When people are down, way .town--kicking doesn't help. No one likes to lose, especially these nearest the defeat. There are two ways to lose-one way and you are a man, another way and you resemble the child who has the red licked of f his candy. Rally around the flag, boys. Don't hold it up to ridicule. Intelligence is a wonderful thing, too bad it's not wasted on more of us. But 'tis a fickle thing . . . this life we live. e C * SEGMENT AWAKENS Maybe a segment at Carolina is waking up. Whatever it was or is . . , the crowds at the "thea tre in the round" production a t week were fine and paid tribute to our waking intellect. I just hope that all the people there, weren't crowding in the Ware house, Theatre just becaus, it was an assignment.- That would be sad and unreal.
