SPORTS E a9ANDERS BY SANDERS As long as there is a competitive game, whether it football, baseball or basketball, there always seems to a few heartaches involved somewhere along the way. There's always the question popping . Why did it have to happen to hii I verything was great . . . for a while ... b why now at this crucial stage? You kn< that's the query man has been asking : thousands of years. Even back in the da of old Rome, many of the gladiators w< injured before a big event and the migh U Caesar asked, "'ha' hoppen?" Now it's the Carolina student's turr DIXON to ask the big question. Why (lid injur ies have to strike quarterback )obby Bunch and King Dixon at such an important time? We'll never know. Bunch as everyone probably knows, suffered a very rious separation of the shoulder in the scrimmage sessi Thursday. King Dixon, who had been so great in his long runbacks of kickoffs against Texas and Furman, injured his hip. Accord ing to reports, Dixon has a severe bruise, and Bunch suffered one of the worst separa tions possible, and will be out for the season. At the time this column was written, it was not known whether Dixon would be avail able for any action in the Clemson game. Only last year, Dixon, on the last day of practice before the "Big Thursday" battle, BUNCH accidently stepped in a hole in the semi darkness of Carolina Stadium and many gray hairs were be found on those few who knew of the injury to Dixor ankle.
