Only one state record holder wil

Birds Beat Tigers
Last Saturday the Gamecocks
defeated arch-rival Clemson by the
score of 70 to 61. This ended the
regular season for the Birds with
only the state meet and ACC meel
remaining.
Conway Snipes led the way for
the Gamecocks by capturing 13
points which made him high man
in the meet. Conway continued to
win the pole vault with a fine vault
of 12 feet 6 inches and also won
the 100-yard dash and placed

Goodroe Wins Again
Don Goodroe won his tenth
straight hurdle race without a
defeat in varsity competition.
Goodroe again bettered the exist

120-yard high hurdles with an
outstanding time of 14.5 seconds.
The state record is 14.6 held by
Banks McFadden of Clemson while
the ACC record is 14.7 held by
Joel Shankle of Duke.
Buddy Mayfield showed blazing
speed, by winning both the 220 and
440-yard dashes. Buddy had a fine
time of 50 flat in the 440. May
field also ran a good leg in the
winning mile relay team. This
gave him a total of 11% points for
the day.
Most Exciting Race
The two-mile run was the most
exciting race of the afternoon in
the meet. Billy Latham, who had
been beaten in the mile run
earlier in the day, came back with
