Candidate .F Lists Reasoi By Barbara Hawthorne Feature Editor (Editor's note: This is the first of a series of articles to acquaint the students with the candidates for Student -Council president.) "Three reasons for my running for president are: the office is in the field in which I am interested for my vocation; the campaign will provide valuable experience; and th office will give me ex perience and I have something to offer to the office," stated Robert Bell, one of the four candidates for Student Council president. "The president should repre sent the Carolina community in stead of a segment," said the Eng lish major from Graniteville. PLATFORM UNRELEASED The 21-year-old junior stated that he did not have his campaign platform for release when the paper went to press. The students have shown ser - ious interest in the political of fices on campus last year and this year, he said. "I like the idea of having a one-month campaign to determine who is qualified. In past it has boiled down to a popu larity contest. Bell has served as an officer in Interfraternity Council, Chi Psi social fraternity,. Tau Kappa Alpha honorary fraternity for de baters, Euphradian Society and Kappa Sigma Kappa, honorary service fraternity. LIKES SPORTS "I have no specific hobbies. I am interested in national and inter national affairs. I will probably go on to law school after I get my bachelor of arts degree and then maybe go into diplomatic work for the State Department," he said. Bell said he enjoys watching sports and also likes popular and classical music. The program is sponsored by the Music Teachers' Association of Florence. The workshop, designed for teachers of elementary and ad vanced piano, consist. of a com bination of class lessons, private conferences and lectures. Musical demonstrations of basic principles of technique, tone productions and interpretation for piano will be given. Not Music? Hollis, acting Alumni Association secretary and assistant professor of history, will discuss early Carolina campus life 3 p.m. Sunday over WIS-TV. The program will be the fourth in a series, "Cross Section: USC," sponsored by the University Ex tension Division. Doctor Hollis is author of the official University history, the second volume "College to Univer sity" which was published last fall. The band will also be featured Sunday showing rehearsal shots in which a woodwind trio will per form.
