The high schools throughout the day and sent an outline of the pr Extra Edueation, Library Science Courses Offered The University School of Educa tion will offer 25 late afternoon, evening and Saturday classes in education and library science dur ing the spring semester. The courses will begin Feb. 1, accord ing to Dr. William W. Savage, dean of the School of Education. The courses are being provided both for full-time students and for employed teachers, school ad ministrators, librarians and others interested in part-time study in the fields of education and library science. Persons may register for the courses during the University's pre-registration period today, to morrow morning or during the registration scheduled for Jan. 30-31. Camsp u CVA Meeting Carolina Veterans Association will meet tonight at 7:30 in room 204, Russell House, according to Carl M. Reynolds, president. New officers for the spring semester will be elected at that time. Any veteran attending Caro lina interested in joining is in vited to attend tonight's meeting, which will be the last meeting of the semester. " " 0 Campus Landscaping Shrubbery and trees are being placed on the campus by the Caro lina Floral Nursery in Charles ton, according to Dean of Ad ministration W. H. Patterson. They are working under the direc tion of Innocenti and Webel Land scape Architects of New York City. Dr. Patterson said the evergreen tree by Russell House ramp was planted by the nursery during Christmas holidays. In addition, he said the company is placing other trees and shrubbery on the fraternity area. No price was available as to the cost of this project. * * * Vets To Sign For Pay All University veterans are to sign training vouchers for this month - between Jan. 18 and 24, Mrs. Betty Hall, University veter ans clerk has announced. It is suggested that this signing be done as soon as possible after the veteran has completed all examinations. The voucher will cover the entire month of January, Mrs. Hall pointed out, explaining that no time will be lost between semesters regarding the pay the vateran receives. The veterans office is located on the first floor of the administra tion building. * * C Room Deposit Refund All students who will graduate this semester or will not otherwise attend the University any longer are to make application for room deposit refund at the office of the housing manager in the administra tion building no later than tomor row, Blackie Kincaid, housing manager, has announced. Refunds will be made at a later date, he said. No applications for refund will be accepted after tomorrow, he advised. * * e Scientific Society Meeting The LeConte Scientific Society of the University of South Caro lina held its second regular meet ing of the year last night in Le Conte College. The purpose of High School Day will be two-fold. It will serve to introduce Carolina to interested students and to answer questions the students may ask about the University and its operation. Explanations of class hours, grading systems and entrance exams are on the agenda for the day. Also, the visitors will be carried on a tour of the horse shoe, library, administration build ing, Russell House, sorority rooms and fraternity houses, and other points of interest on the campus. They will also visit sessions in the classrooms. A lunch will probably be served on the horseshoe for the visitors. One suggested date for High School Day is Sigma Chi Derby so that the visitors may see an example of campus fun and frolic, the spokesman said. H. O. Strohecker, registrar, and other members of the administra tion are currently visiting high schools in the state interpreting Carolina to them. The program began Oct. 1 and will continue through March 8 with an average of two schools being visited per week day. li Mriehs meeting Wednesday at 4 p.m. in room 204 of Russell House to consider the proposed freshman class dance, Freshman President Bunky Joye has announced. A tentative date for the dance, which the freshman hope will turn into an annual event, has been set as Feb. 9. The dance committee and the finance committee, which were appointed at earlier meetings, will meet to make definite plans to be submitted at the meeting on Wednesday. " " " Wesley Drive Continues A drive by Methodist students of Wesley Foundation to obtain clothes for Hungarian refugees will continue through Jan. 17, announced Morris Leister, chair man of the World Christian Com munity Committee which is spon soring the drive. Any person who desires to give clothes for the Hungarians is asked to bring the articles to Wesley House at 628 Bull Street. After the drive is completed the committee will give the clothes to some national organization con nected with the refugee program to distribute in the best way pos sible. Even if South Carolina's Grady Wallace failed to score in each of the 15 remaining regular season games, he'd still have a respect able average of 12.5 points at the season's end. ITT & WH ON OF UNITED AIRCRAFr COU Computer Kit Given To School Representatives of International Business Machines Corporation at -a meeting last Monday night at the School of Engineering pre sented to the Division of Elect'ical Engineering a computer kit to be used in connection with instruc tional activities for digital com puters. The IBM representatives dis cussed with students in the School of Engineering and the School of Business Administration recent developments in the IBM Corpora tion. The computer kit, Engineering lean Robert L. Sumwalt said, is a compact and workable experi mental kit Which illustrates many of the basic circuits encountered in digital computers. At the meeting, the IBM film "Counter Measures" was shown to the group. The film indicates IBM's activity in connection with defense projects under way for the U. S. Government. A second film, "Piercing the Unknown," illustrated the rapid developments being made in the manufacture and use of data processing equip ment. Lester C. Harvel of Columbia, president of the University chapter of the American Institute of Elec trical Engineers, presided and in troduced the representatives of IBM and of the University faculty present.
