Pan Hellei In Campu By Carolyn McClung Special Writer That a campus group does not have to make a big splash to make its influence felt is evidenced by the Pan Hellenic Council. Made up of three representa itves from each of the eight na tional social sororities on the Carolina campus, the group han dlIes inter-sorority relations and enforces rules that pertain to all sororities, made by the national Pan Hellenic council. Coordinating rushing rules and enforcing them is one of the big gest functions of the group during the fall semester, according to Grace Zimmerman, president. Officers of Pan Hellenic are Liz ; Singletary, vice-president; Lise Verner, treasurer; and Alma Har rison, secretary. All officers except the president are rotated among the sororities according to the foundation (late of their Caro lina chapter. Pan Hellenic Will Enforce Rushing Rules Plans have been made by Pan Hellenic Council to strictly en force "dirty rushing" rules during the current sorority rush season, Grace Zimmerman, Pan Hellenic pre-;ident, has announced. Three rules have been set forth l.v Pan Hellenic and offenders w'il! be penalized by the Council accordingly, Miss Zimmerman said. The rules are: 1. Through October 13, informal rushing will prevail with no parties. Parties consist of a pre arranged gathering of rushees and eit}her actives or alumnae, at which retreshments are served. 2. No sorority member may talk to a rushee from October 14-19 unless a representative of another sorority is present. 3. Absolutely no contact will be permitted between rushees and sorority members from 9 p.m., October 19 until noon, October 20. Contact includes that by 1hone, written notes, through alumnae, nun-sorority members or n11n. To enforce the last rule, Pan I Hellenic members will patrol the halls of Sims, Wade Hampton. F'reshman and Kirkland dormi tories from 9 p.m., October 19, until early the following morning.
