Sportsmanship
Award Offered
To ACC Team
According to Dean J. T. Penney,
who is South Carolina's athletic
faculty advisor, an award will be
presented to the institution dis
playing the best sportsmanship
throughout the school year. This
award will be presented by the
Sports Writers Association and
will be a rotating trophy.
Not only will the schools be
-judged by the conduct of the
participating athletes but the
members of thr-student bodies as
well.
It would certainly be a feather
in our University's cap if we
here at South Carolina could take
these honors this season. It is
a known fact that our coaches of
the various teams are stressing
snch sportsmanship apd with the
aid of the student body, Carolina
will be high on the list for con
sideration next spring.
School System Blamed
Rep. John Gentry of Easley
blamed the existing school sys
tems, rather than the teachers, for
failure to properly equip students
for college careers, vocations, and
life in general.
Ile pointed out that a child
needs counseling from his parents
and teachers in selecting subjects
for study in high school.
