Virginia compiled 64 points while South Carolina had 47% and N. C. State had 54%. Dick Bartulski, South Carolina's javelin star who is handicapped with a cast on his broken left arm, threw the javelin 217 ft., 8 in. to break the old ACC record of 199 ft., 3.4 in., set by Harry Brown of North Carolina in 1954. Bartulski, using a new type of javelin, made all his throws of the day over 200 feet and three over thr 210 foot mark. His record throw is the third best throw for the javelin in the United States this year. Fred Roberts was outstanding for the losing Gamecocks also as he ran a faster time in the 880 yard run than the South Carolina state record which he holds. His time was 1:56.5. Other firsts in the meet were by Sonny Wilchei in the 440-yard dash, Gene Berry in the broad juip, and Joe Silas in the shot put. The Gamecock mile relay team, composed of Larry Patrick, Don Whetstone, Fred Rob erts, and Sonny Wilcher, won the relay in a time of 3:25.5.
