winners. However, SPE came back
to heat the KA's 71-34 as Spruell
hit 20 points for SPE. Then Phi
Sigma Kappa was awarded a for
feited victory over KA in a game
scheduled for Tuesday night.
Kappa Sigma trounced ATO 53-24
as Willis scored 20 points for the
winners. Revere continued to pace
the ATO offensive attack with 12
points. The Kappa Sigs also beat
I,i.abda Chi 57-43 with Altman and

Yosaitus Hot
In the independent league, Hend

and Ioh Yosaitus scored well,
edged Canterbury 40-37. Knox
Ifitynesworth garnered 16 points
for the losers. ASMIE slipped by

scored 10 and nine points, respec
tively, for the winners. Haptist
Student Union walked over ASCE

All-Star Game
An all-star game, with the out
standing performiers from the fra
ternity and independent leagues
battling for campus supremacy,
will he held at a date yet to be an
hunced, according to Bob Rloyall,
student director of the intramural
activities. Proceeds from the game
will go to the United States Olym
pie Fund.

ITrack Coach Weems Baskin is
issuing a call for freshman track
candidates for Mlonday, March
19th. Nine outstanding men have
reported so far but Coach Baskin
expressed hope that many more
would t u rn out Monday. All candi
dates should report to the field
house at 1 :30 P. M. each day for
practice.
The Birds are using the Fort
Jackson track for practice and will
hold all home meets there also. Out
standing freshmen who have re
ported are Don Goodrow, outstand
ing hurdler who tied the varsity
time in the conference indoor meet
two weeks ago; Jimmy Cathcart, a
very good dash man who has been
clocked under ten seconds for the
hundred, and Jimmy Latham, one
of the most promising distance
runners to enroll here in quite some
t'ime, and who ran the mile for
Dreher High School for the past
three years.
Coach Baskin stated that he
would welcome more varsity candi
dates also. le said the team was
sha14ng up well under the condi
tions facing them but more men are
needed to insure a strong team for
the season opener against Presby
terian College on March 20.

Snipes will add much strength to
the squad, stated Coach Raskin.
Snipes won three first places in
the state meet last spring which
included the pole vault, 100-yard
dash, and the broad jump. His 12
feet, (;-inch vault set a state record
for a freshman.
Other men counted on this season
will be Allen Inabinet, George
Thomas, Larry Patrick, Harry Ed
wards, Toni Collins, Dick Bartul
ski, Gene Berry, and .Joe Silas.
The Birds will open their 1950t
season Tuesday, March 20, when
they take on Presbyterian's Blue
Stockings. The meet will begin at
1:30 P. M. and will he held at the
Fort Jackson track.
Four Titles for Ted
Ted Petoskey's freshmen turned
in the fourth State Championship
team in five years. The 1939 edi
tion of freshman was rugged and
competent and needed only prac
tice in the intricacies of the
Notre Dame forffations to make
them a formidable eleven in the
field. The season started off
tamely enough with the Biddies
pounding out a victory over the
tiny eleven from Presbyterian
College. Again the Biddies won
the state title. Outstanding for
the Birds were Lou Sossaman,
,John Leitner, and the Nowak

so-called'lesser' sports?
Hight now let's concentrate on
baseball. The story that as)l, t he
question, "Why should a full
scholarship be given to a basketball
or football manager( not that they
don't deserve it) ? What of t ho e
athletes that don't receive a red
cent ?" We fully realize that "u.

cussed this openly. but we feel that
very few persons at this university
are ignorant. of the fact that out
athletes do reeeive l aid by way of
tuition, meals, rooms, etc., wher"eas,

most persons here do not know for
