Placemeni New Civil S Used By Fe The Placement Bureau has ment from the U. S. Civil Ser entrance examination to be use agencies to fill a wide variety or trainee level. "The first written test will be given December 10. Interested students who expect to complete the required educational courses within the next nine months should apply for this examination," Mrs. Ruth I. McVey, head of the Place ment Bureau, said. Most of the appointments will be made to positions paying the entrance salary of $8,670.00 a year (Grade GS-5), located in Wash ington, D. C., and throughout the United States, territories and pos sessions. The examination may also be used to fill a few overseas positions in the U. S. Information Agency and other agencies. Some appointments will be made to posi tions at Grades GS-6 and GS-7 ($4,080.00 and $4,525.00 a year). Other Examinations This is not the only entrance examination for college graduates. Engineers, physicists, chemists, and certain other technical per sonnel are recruited through other examinations. Seniors having pri mary interest in and training for such special fields should refer to the appropriate announcement and file for that examination. Placement interviews for the week of October 31 through November 4 are as follows. Seniors and graduate students wishing to talk with the inter viewers may make appointments through the schools where the interviews are to be held. School of Business Administration Mr. Floyd Knight of the- Atomic Energy Commission's Savannah River Operations Office will be in the School of Business Adminis tration on Thursday, November 3, to talk with prospective January accounting graduates in connection with openings at the Savannah River Plant. On Monday, October 31, repre sentatives of Combustion Engi neering, Inc. will be interested in talking with chemical and me chanical engineers and physicists. Bergquist of North Amer ican Aviation, Inc., Engineering Department, at Los Angeles, will interviev civil, electrical and me chanical engineers at the B.S. and M.S. levels. North American has openings at the position of Junior Engineer and Engineer in aero dynamics, design, flight test, re search, structures and weight. There are also openings for physi cists. ALCOA Visit Also on November 2, Mr. D. W. Poage and Mr. R. E. Mabry will interview all types of January engineering degree candidates in the School of Engineering to fill positions with Aluminum Com pany of America. ALCOA is con cerned with mining, refining, fabrication and sale of aluminum and magnesium. Mr. Arthur M. Suggs of the Trane Company will want to inter view mechanical engineers on November 3 in connection with sales engineering positions, both in- the field and in the home office. "Trane" manufactures heating, ventilating, refrigeration, air con ditioning and heat transfer equip ment and markets these products through its own sales organiza tion. L. Sumwalt, dean of the School of Engineering. All faculty members and stu dents are invited, Dr. Sumwalt said. The address will be delivered by Dr. T. A. Boyd, a senior engineer on the staff of the research labor atories division of General Motors. His subject will be "On Being An Engineer." The address will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Dr. Boyd received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Degree from Ohio State University in 1918 and later the professional degree of Chemical Engineer. He received the Ohio State Uni versity Lamme Medal award for meritorious achievement in engi neering in 1939 and in 1953 the honorary d e g r e e, Doctor of Science. Dr. Boyd has published more than 50 technical papers. lie also is author of two books: "Gasoline -What Everyone Should 'Know About It," and "Research-the Pathfinder of Science and In justry."
