Overlooking Green Street, the $1,100,000 Russell House is dis
tinguished by its curved ramp. The ramp was designed by Lyles, Bissett,
Carlisle and Wolff, architects for the building, to accommodate lots of
traffic at once. M. B. Kahn Construction Company was contractor for
the job. Landscaping is still in progress with grass planned for the lawn
and flowers or shrubs between the double walls now being constructed.
A walk is being built to connect with the slate ground level patio and
pond at the rear of the building. Included inside the building .. .
... are the snck shop, top, cafeteria, right, and game
room, below. The cafeteria, in which students carry
their own tvays, serves around 1,700 meals a day.
Besides ping-peng, pool, card games and pinball are
found in the recreation room. The snack shop serves
soft drinks and sandwiches to students between classes
and during off hours. Two music rooms are located at
the rear of the
. .. lounge, which contains comfortable furniture and TV. The
comfortable surroundings of the lounge Is copduclve to restive

Russell House is the realization of a long-awaited dream for Carolina.
It is a student house, and has become the hub around which most of
a student's life revolves. It is the place where he can congregate with
his friends between classes, spend a leisurely hour watching television
or a few minutes in a fast game of ping-pong, or maybe just rest before
trudging on. It is the place where a student will be elated or disappointed
when the mail is delivered; the place where he will eat his meals, pick
up his laundry, or have a hair-cut. It might even be the place where he
makes great decisions while meeting with his student activities. But
most of all it is a center for all phases of student life . . . this is the
Russell House.
