University Band
Takes First Tour
The University Band played for
many S. C. high school students
when it went on a spring concert
tour this week, Richard Zimmer
man, director, announced. The tour
was climaxed when the band re
turned to Columbia with a concert
in Drayton Hall April 28.
The tour carried the band to
Orangeburg and Walterboro on
Tuesday and Charleston, Manning,
and Camden on Wednesday.
The program covered a variety
of selections:
"0 Sacred Head Now Wounded,"
Johann Sebastian Bach, Chorale;
"Lustspiel Overture," Keler Bela;
"Solo Pomposo," AJ Hayes, Soloist
Edgar R. Millard, Sousaphone;
"Ballet Egyptian," Alexandre Lui

Sousa, March; "Andante Canta
bile," P. Tschaikowsky; "Wedding
of the Winds," John T. Hall;

Tours Hospital
Last Friday afternoon the nurs
ing students' society were taken
on an extensive and supervised
tour of Columbia Hospital.
The tour was conducted by Miss
Padget, a supervisor at Columbia
Hospital, and three student nurses.
The girls were taken through
the surgery rooms, recovery rooms
and wards, the maternity ward,
pediatrics, floor, the physical
therapy section, and the diet
kitchen.
Included was a tour of the
nurses' home where the student
nurses live and take their classes.
The girls who went were: Mary
Dona Mackey, Barbara Williams,
Patsy Cogburn, Miriam Weathers,
Beth Taffner, Peggy Cudd, Jean
irl ette MCMillan, Sherry Sword,
Frances Talbert, and Sandra

playing for the annuai Coronation
Ball to climax the May DJay exer
cises on Monday, May 2. The
campus-wide dance is to be held
at the Township Auditorium from C

land, and her court.
The Les brown -Band has won v
many awards for outstanding
music through the years among
the many, voted Number I Band
by Billboard Magazine, Orchestra
World, Campus Magazine, and
Major National Disc Jockey Polls.
The most recent poll taken by
"Down Beat Magazine" votes Les
Brown number one dance band
in the nation.
The band has had a unique way I

band stays primarily in California
where they play the Bob Hope
Radio and TV shows. Along with
