The dance will be held in the Township Auditorium from 9-1, with a concert before the dance. Also featured with the orchestra will be Lynn Roberts and Bill Raymond, vocalists, and Buddy Rich, drummer. The first Dorsey Brothers Orchestra was formed in 1922. Then, for 10 years, they per formed as top instrumental soloists for the leading orchestras of the period. Early in 19386 the brothers split up, each with the idea -of building an orchestra around his own conception of music. Tommy's orchestra was the first large dance band to play theatres as the featured attrac tion. Jimmy, on the other hand, emphasized a sweeter style. For nearly 17 years, the Dorsey Brothers carried on a friendly feud, which ended two years ago at the Hollywood Palladium, where both were on the same program. They drew such a tremendous hand from the audi ence that they decided to pool their resources again. Today they jointly oWn a New York music publishing firm and have many other holdings together. Lynn Roberts, vocalist for the orchestra, started singing when she was two years old. While in high school, she made quite a few local TV appearances, and it was after one of th se that Charlie Spivak asked her to join his band when she finished school. After touring for awhile with Spivak, she left to join Vincent Lopez's band. Before too long, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey offered Lynn the female job singing with their band, and she jumped at it. Bill Raymond, another vocalist, has sung with three vocal groups, has been a soloist and night club master of ceremonies, and has been vocalist with five dance orchestras. Bill feels now that - edic tars, ft - 4- delpp M--mn tht'7P ric-ts melsareAme that'mst p pula Will Feature rTs Orchestra BUDDY RICH he has reached the top in dance band singing as featured male vocalist with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra, thus realizing his life long ambition. Buddy Rich, billed as "The World's Greatest Drummer," spent six years with Tommy Dorsey, and after his return from the service he organized his own band. Now back with the Dorseys, he is one of the most prolific of the top-rung musicians, and one of the most colorful.
