Charles Goldberg, newly-elected president, made his inaugural address and outgoing president Flynn Harrell delivered his fare well address. Harrell, speaking for himself and the retiring slate of officers, said, " . . . with office goes honor, and with honor goes responsibil ity. The greatest award for the holding of an office is the knowl edge that you have done your best." Fingerprint Classification Course Given A course in fingerprint classjfi cation sponsored by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Train ing School, will be offered at the university in January, A. B. Harman, Jr., coordinator, has an nounced. Conducted by the university extension division, the course will be held eight hours a day for five days and will be divided into two sessions, Jan. 17th-21st and Jan. 24th-28th. Enrollment will be limited to 25 students per session. Personnel of all law enforce ment agencies in the state may participate. Instructors will be agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation through the Savannah, Ga., office. Studlents will be trained to classify prints for filing purposes and to evaluate characteristics found in latent prints in connection with known prints. The first 25 applicants will be accepted for the first session un less the later one is requested. All applications after the first 25 will be assigned to the second session. Because the concentratedl in st ruction cannot be repeated, tardy registrants will not be enrolled. Registration blanks and informa tion may be obtained by wvriting to Allen B. A new member, Charles Davis of Charleston, was initiated into the society by Harrell in his last ,official act. Carolina Is First College To Have Special Exhibit Currently being held on the top floor of Barnwell College is an exhibition entitled "American Art Abroad." This exhibition has been sent to the university by the Traveling Art Incorporation and Carolina is the first univermity to have it, according to Prof. Ed ward Yaghjian. It will later be shown at Stanford University, University of New Mexico, and Mills College among other places. There a re 18 parti-ipating artists, most of whom live and work in Pennsylvania. Among those are Robert Goldman, W. E. Baum, Henry C. Pitz, Julius Bloch, and Dalya Goutman. The paintings feature a trendl towvard modern, abstract art and brilliant pastel colors, although there is some variety in the eighteen canvasses being shown. The public is cordlially invited to visit the exhibit which will remain on view until January 29. The fund is made possible through the proceeds of the annual Song Feat, .sponsored by Alpha Kappa Gamma. Loans are made to senior men and women who need financial aid in receiving their degree. The loans range from $100 to $250, depending on the individual stu dent. The scholarship loan Is a revolving fund. The recipient to the loan agrees to. pay back the full amount to Alpha Kappa Gamma within two years after he graduates. in this way, the loan continues to help students desiring financial aid to graduate. Class Next semester the Air Force ROTC will offer a course con cerned with "The Military Aspect of World Political Geography," according to Major J. H. Barrett. The course is concerned with the extent to which*various na tions of the world have been af fected by the development of air power and its consequence upon world power factors. The factors are concerned with what maae the nation a world power in the first place. As an example, Gret Britain was relatively secure be fore the air age because of its position. Since the advent of the air age it is a short distance, time-wise, from Russia to London, for example. Also taken into consideration will be the relationship of coun tries close to one another-Great Britain, France, Denmark, for example. The physieal, economic and political structure of the in dividual countries will also be taken into consideration. This course will be taught to those AFROTC students who will receive their commissions in Tune. Four scholarships to attend the university will be awarded in the senior high school exhibit division in the fields of general science, chemistry, physics and mathe matics, and biology. The science student whose ex hibit is judged the best entry will be awarded a scholarship valued at $250. A $100 scholarship will be given for the best exhibits in categories other than the top award. Exhibits may be entered In any phase of junior high school general science, high school general science, physics and mathematics, biology and chemistry. Applica tions to enter must be filed by April 15th and the exhibitor must be sponsored by his science teacher. Exhibits will be judged on the basis of creative ability, scientific thought, thoroughness, skill, clar ity, andl dramatic value. In addition to the scholarships, certificates og participation will be presented to each exhibitor and three honorary award certificates will be given in each of the five exhibit categories.
