"MASTER SPEAKS
By BOBBY ALFORD
The familiar sound of the public address system which
in the past three years has bleated out "In on the Play was
Mincevich, Wohrman, Cunningham and Lovell" will be silent
in regard to these names in the future. The big four along
with eight others will be bowing out of the Carolina football
picture tomorrow.
Big holes will be left by the graduation of "the big four"
and will be the main problem of concern come next football
season. Mincevich is one of the greatest guards ever to attend
the University. Wohrman is the most underrated fullback in
college football, and one of the best blockers in the nation.
Lovell is one of the most consistent linemen to be found any
where. Cunningham has been a regular and a colorful per
former for three years.
This column wishes all the football seniors the best of
luck in the future. I have enjoyed watching them perform
for Carolina and I know that the Carolina fans will long re
member the 1954 football team.
Next year there will be many problems facing Coach
Enright and his staff. The big one will be rebuilding the line.
The only returning veterah of this year's squad will be Dick
Covington. Cunningham will be replaced by Hugh Bell, and
should fill the bill. DeLuca will probably take Kopec's place
at one of the tackles. Jack Salisbury and Hugh Merck will
battle with a couple of sophomores for the other tackle spot.
Wohrman's job will probably go to "Big Ed" Adams or
Bobby Barrett. The rest of the backfield will probably re
main intact with the possibility of a couple of sophomores and
bohunks breaking into the lineup.
Joe Silas will be back at left end, but Granger departs
from the scene tomorrow. There will be quite a few holdover
ends who will compete for starting assignments. Buddy
Frick, Don Sehulster, Larry Gosnell, Billy Rivers, Julius
Derrick, Buddy Nidifer, and Don Champion will give each
other plenty of competition.
On the intramural scene Sigma Chi won the Campus
Volleyball .Championship by defeating the Carovets in the
finals four straight. The scores were 15-8, 15-3, 15-8, 15-11.
This ends Sigma Nu's reign over Campus Volleyball. Hats
off to Sigma Chi!
We have the prospects of a better year in basketball than
last, and with good support from the student body this years'
team might make themselves known in the conference. Let's
have a little more spirit for the basketball team than we did
for the football team.
