and scientists from Free China
and India who came to the uni
versity at their own expense to
study history, chemistry and
American literature.
This group includes Shelley H.
Cheng from Taipei, Formosa,
Sara Funn Kwong from Canton,
Chi, Chin-Chiun Chu fron
Hsinchu, Formosa, and Bhabatosl
Chatterjee from Calcutta, India.

Miss Kwong, daughter of a

chemistry and plans to be a

in English in Maffusil College of
Bengal.
At the university he is studying
American literature with the idea
of applying the critical theories
of European and Sanskrit writers
to the work of major American
poets. He plans to be a college
teacher in India.
The university graduate school
has awarded fellowships and as
sistantships to all four students to
assist them financially and to pro
vide them with practical experi
ence in their field of interest.
The university offers the Ph.D.
degree in history, chemistry and
English, which are the fields of
the Asiatic graduate students, and
also in biology and education.
