The Kappa Sigs held a wiener roast at Lake Murray

GENE SMOAK and MILDRED WALKER, and WALTER

PARTIN' IS SUCH SWEET SORROW
Another great year has ended at ye ole University. We
enjoyed writing this column as much as you all have enjoyed
creating the news.
Have a "fabulous" (not that we've overworked that adjec

Campus Warned
About Monster

My name is Monday. I work
out of McCutchen. On May 25, at
ten in the morning, my telephone
rang. It was a senior who had
been attacked by a horrible
monster. He was too frightened
to give a description. I told him
to hold on 'til I could get there.
When I arrived on the scene, the
student had recovered somewhat.
He described the monster as a blue
book with question marks darting
out at him. "It was horrible," he
stated; "it spouted calculus on
me."
"Can you give me more details?
I just want to get the facts."
I determined to track down this
monster and set out to find him.
It was easy to follow his trail. On
every side I got the same story
from other students who had been
attacked. With this danger at
large, anything might happen.
The effects were beginning to
tell. An unaccustomed quietness
had spread over the campus. In
the panic that had set in students
were using an un-heard-of defense
-they were studying!
As I turned wearily back to my
office, I felt something cold and
slimy grasp my arm. I gazed
down in horror-it was a final
exam!
Unprepared* as I was, I was
forced to put up a fight. Using
my fountain pen as a weapon, I
began my grisly task. As the
battle grew more difficult, I broke
out in a cold sweat. I wondered
if my ink would hold out.. The
blue book fired more and more
questions at me. I was weakening.
I must have passed out. When I
came to, he was gone.
The foregoing is true. This
criminal is still at large. The
faculty is offering a reward of
an unlimited number of cuts to the
studenit or students who are able
to cope with him.. Warning-he
is known to be armed and dan
gerous. Use caution In approach
ing him!

members and their guests on Wed
nesday, May 19. It was held at the
Beltline VFW post from seven
until nine.

sor Frank B. Herty, chairman of
the Mechanical Engineering Divi
sion of the University. The
speaker for the evening was Mr.
J. W. Lindau, prominent Columbia
businessman and an associate pro
fessor in the School of Engineer
ing. His subject was "The Social
Responsibilities of an Engineer."

Sun Festival
To Be Held
Planners of the Third Annual
Sun-Fun Festival scheduled for
Myrtle Beach June 2 through
June 6 are heralding the event
with loud and brassy trumpets.
With the slogan, "Everything for
Fun Under the Sun," the festival
boasts a slate of activities which
includes sporting events, a parade
including some 20-odd floats and
numerous marching bands, mili
tary and political dignitaries, a
masquerade ball, and the annual
Jaycee sponsored Miss South CaV0
lina Pageant.
Featured In connection with the
beauty pageant will be the pres
ence of the 1954 Miss America,
Miss Evelyn Ay, and Miss South
Carolina of 1953, Miss Miriam
Stevenson of Winnsboro. Miss
Stevenson will be on hand to greet
this year's contestants while Miss
Ay will serve as a judge in select
