Brazell was a part-time catcher in 1953 and finished the season with a .207 batting average. He spent the summer playing semi pro ball with Elloree in the East ern Carolina League, usually at third base. A United Press all-state half back last fall, Brazell led the football team in rushing average with 6.6 yards per carry. If his hitting continues he may be the top offensive performer for the Gamecocks in two major sports. In early season workouts he alternated with Bill Wohrman at third base, but opened the season in center field. In the field events there will be the shot put, broad jump, and high jump. Boxing is being held after an absence of several years. The first round of fighting begins at 7 o'clock Monday. Weigh-ins for the eight divisions will take place Monday afternoon from one to four. Each match will consist of three one-minute rounds with a minute rest between rounds. There will be two judges and a referee for each fight. The eight divisions will be: 125 limit, 130, 135, 145, 155, 165. 175, and unlimited.
