Last week's bagfull of ups
what. All in all it wasn't too b
our season's average dropped
Although it doesn't affec
predicted in this column, we'll
about our success in hitting the
Carolina-West Virginia game
squarely on the head. That tidy
selection appeared in last week's
Sportnatic, conducted elsewhere
on these pages.
After a look at this week's
schedule we started to beg off.
Some of the toughest, most un
predictable games of the season
will be played tomorrow. Now to
face our hardest task of the sea
Arkansas over LSU. Both teanis
are like the little girl who, when
she was good, was very good, and
when bad, was very bad. The
boys from the bayou haven't been
good at all lately, with four
straight defeats.
Baylor over SMU. Either teani
coull win by four touchdowns; the
Bears are picked to rebound.
Auburn over Clemson. The
Phinsmen have their best teams in
years. But they will have to play
1 a good game to wvin.
Citadel over Davidlson. The Bull
dogs aret. not goodl, butt the Wild
cats are worse.
Duke over Georgia Tech. The
t D)evils lwrve the better line and
have had a week of rest.
F"ordham is mak<ing a slow come
hack. A wvin this week over Holy
Cross will help sp)eed it upl.
Indiana by a slight malrginl over
lPurdue.
Missouri has a superior record
comt)pa red with Kansas.
Tlennessee over Ken.tucky in a
meeting between the South's two
most15 impjrovedl teamIls.
Maryland1( over A labiama. The
Crimson Tlide is rising each wveek,
but mighty Maryland appeared to
be indestructible last week in its
romp3 over Mississippi. The top
game in the South we think, even
over D uke andI Tech.
Michigan State over MarqIuette.
A bout time we found a breather.
Ohio State over Michigan. This
is what we meant by a rough wveek
end.
Wisconsin showed real greatness
last week. Minnesota and/or G;iel
was stopped. The Badgers by
coup)le of touchdowns.
West Virginia will get back or
the winning track against N. C
State.
Illinois might still make it t<
the Rose Bowl. We'll pick 'em ovel
North wes ter'n.
Notre Dame over Iowa in the
top game of the (lay. The Hawk
eyes have been unde(lrrated( th<
whole season couldl sp)ring an upse
here, but the Irish are still tops.
Peon State over Pitt in thei
53rd meeting. Penn State rank
wit.h the best in the East with l'it
a shade behind.
UCLA had their undlefeatedl ree
a, ord spoiled by Southern ('al las
e-. year in their final game and it cos
rthem a Rose Bowl bid. The Bruin
jq are the pick here to get their re
venge. Game of the year on th
IWest Coast.
Rice over T('UI. A win will put
the Owls closer to a bowl bid.
North Carolina over dlownt rodde
Virginia.

We'll take Yale over Harvard
