Among its objectives, according to its constitution, are "to promott among college students, and th< publie generally, an understanding and appreciation of the basic prin r ciples of the American constitution 'laissez faire' economics, and th< c. philosophy of individualism." The president of the new organi f zation is William F. Buckley, Jr. e whose recent book, "God and Mal I at Yale," has been the cause o: much controversy in academic cir -"les the past few months. WRIGHT Caroliiiiana Group Hears President Of Folger Library The university South Caroliniana Society held its sixteenth annual meeting at the South Caroliniana Library on the campus Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p. m. Dr. Louis B. Wright, director of the Folger Shakespeare Library in. Wasnington, delivered the main ad dress. He spoke on the Guignard family of South Carolina, whose private papers were the most im portant gift received by the society this year. A native of Greenwood, Dr. Wright earned his bachelor's de gree at Wofford College and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. The purpose of the bibliography R to make readily available pub- 0 shed information on the geogra- a hy of the state. It is a companion v iece to the bibliography of South C ,arolina geology compiled last a ear by Dr. Petty, and is the second 1 f the research committee's pub cation series on the physical g ciences. 1 The bibliography lists by author C ,nd title books and articles on the eography of the state published C hrough 1951. It is the only state eographical bibliography ever to e published. In order for the bibliography to e of the widest use, the field of eography has been broadly inter reted and all references which re ate to the description and distribu ion of human and natural ihenomena or associated with the ,urface of the earth are included. ,onsisting of 126 pages, it includes Ln index of titles by counties. Copies of the bibliography may e obtained by writing to the De artment of Geology and Geogra hy, University of South Carolina, -olumbia, S. C. rord. He was formerly a reporter and city editor on the "Greenwood [ndex-Journal" and is the author of numerous books and articles in the fields of American colonial his tory and English literature. Smith, head of the eology department, attended the outheastern Mineral Symposium t Roanoke, Va., last week. He was ccompanied by a student, Charles Valters, of Columbia. The symposium was sponsored y the geology department of the 'irginia Polytechnic Institute. The rogram included discussions of cological subjegts, employment pportunities in the field of geology nd other subjects. Two field trips vere scheduled for the last day f the meeting.
