Students selec Phriness Cox of Columbia, Mitche burg and Bob Daniels of Greenvill Advanced Degrees Urged By President The encouragement of junior members of the teaching staff of the University of South Carolina to complete their formal education has been the policy of the latter part of President Norman M. .. Smith's administration, F. W. Bradley, dean of faculty, an nounced. Nine instructors at the univer sity have earned Ph.D.'s in the last two years. At the present time there are six professors absent from the campus pursuing higher degrees. Five of the teaching staff are doing practical work in the field for post doctoral studies, three of I which are on fellowships granted by outside concerns, according to Bradley. Bradley praised the advance made by the faculty :n re?src . In 1950 there were 48 works pub lished by university personnel; in 1951 there were 62. These publica tions range from articles in learned journals to books on various subjects. It has been the policy of the administration to urge the faculty members to attend sessions of societies in their field, thus keeping abreast with the latest develop ments.
