MARY ANN THOMPSON, FRED DUCKETT, Sigma Chi; REGINA OWENS, AD Pi, and BUCK SPROTT; MOPPY SATTERFIELD, ZTA and CARLE ,ATKINSON; MAR GARET MacMILLAN and DAN PACE all spent the week end fishing, boating, and skiing on the waters and snows of the Santee. BUBBA BRUNSON of Pi Kappa Phi, entertained several of his brothers at a spaghetti supper last Wednesday. ADPi's JACKIE RICKS, PEGGY O'NEAL, JANE BROWN, BETTY PRINCE, and B. J. McLEAN were among those who danced at Davidson this week end for the Sigma Chi Sweetheart Dance. They also galloped to Camden for the Cup Races. WSSF is having a dance at the Armory Saturday night. JAY QUICK, Phi Sig, pinned JANE GUTHRIE, Chi 0, last week. The PI KA's are planning to scare everybody with a Mas querade Ball on Saturday night. Elsewhere on the bill for Saturday night is a Delta Sig dance. . . . Whether that scares anybody remains to be seen. BETSY EHRHARDT, ADPi, was awarded the Cup, not for the Camden Races, but for being AD Pi's best pledge. The KD's will eat a banquet at the Green Derby tonight. ROSE REYNOLDS rode her bicycle down to Johnston last week end in order to inspect the agricultural situation. MARY ANNE CONE descended to Summerville, but as yet, we have heard nothing as to the plight of the flowers therein. The following air-minded individuals are flying to join the Civil Air Patrol: HAROLD GRAY, JACK COX, BOB CAMERON, FRANK BRUNSON, SPIKE DARLINGTON, and BOBBY VONCANNON. PAUL PHILLIPS, Phi Sig, went to Canada to shoot him self, and came back unarmed - er - unharmed. GEORGE (Cheerleader) FLOYD and "SON" KINON, Lambda Chi's, wandered through the "Magnoliah Gahdens" on Sunday.. LYNN BOYKIN, Tri Delt, gave a big party for the fol lowing equestians who raced to Camden for the Stirrup - I mean -- the Carolina Cup: FRANCES LUMPKIN with I)ICK RUSH, SAE; MARY ANN ERWIN with FOSTER MARSHALL, SAE; NANCY MITCHELL with JIMMY SIMS, SAE ; SUZANNE (Fads in the Ads) HYER with PAUL BYRUM, SAE ; BETSY KNOWLTON and WARRING TON WILLIAMS. - Lambda Chi's and dates partied at Morris Lodge on Satur (lay night. Other members of the same left the Campus Horseshoe on Saturday to be nearer those at Camden. These included: BOB LANGSTON, TED SALEEBY, BILLY RICHARDSON, GENE SWANN, ELDEN DYE, and POP EADDY. Others of the friars descended to Geawgia: JIM FINDLEY, NORRIS MULLIS and A. W. JOHNSON. LOU KIDDER, SOPHIE MILLING, EVELYN MAR SHALL, CARROLL SIMMS, and HELEN JOHNSON, Tri Delt's, all partied in Charleston, which is east of Summer ville, last week end. The Phi Kappa Sig's had a social gathering at the Wo man's Club on Saturday night. The outstanding initiatee of this fraternity is JIM BROWN. Music for' the affair was courteously furnished by Wurlitzer and Company. DICK BOBO visited DON EDNEY in Georgetown. JIM CORDELL marriedI WANDA EDWARDS last Monday. They June de mieled in Savannah. OWEN SEDARBURG rose to the great heights of Richmond, Virginia. DAVE MARTIN and BENT LEY were in Winthrop. These various Alums returned: HENRY WILSON, VERLIN COFFEE (we're not allowed to advertise, you know . . .), CHARLES WEAGLEY, SKID McRAINEY, JACK THOMAS, and EDDY TREXLER. The next to be mentioned ATO's also went to see WALT SHEA and his Palominos at Camden on Saturday: BILL MAHONEY, BILL RAST, MILTON and HUDSON, Incor porated. The latter had a, house party in Charleston on the Atlantic. The KA's were not to be neglected at the Camden hic Cup Races. Ardent horse fans included: CLIFF GADDY with G. B. KENNEDY (no relation), BEN SAWYER with BILLIE ALFORD, ZTA; HUGH McLAURIN with JEAN CROSBY, Bing's sister; JOE BERRY (JESSE's brother) with MARY JO GOODING, KD; STEWART HOPE with BUNNY BUTLER; TERRELL GLENN with BESS Mc CAULAY; KEMP HYERS with ANN BRADLEY; Tri Delt. Tomorrow Will Be To Order Cap And Joe Lawrence, head of the uni versity post office, announced to day that tomorrow, April 5, is the last day that graduating seniors may order their caps and gowns and invitations. Like senior exams and English proficiency tests, a person cannot be graduated from the University without ordeing a cap and gown. Invitations may be ordered at the same time. Three varieties are offered for those who like to pick and choose. Coffee Hour At Flinn Hall Last Friday Last Friday at the ten o'clock free period, the "Y" sponsored ar coffee hour for the students and faculty. Miss Sallie Adickes provided a bountiful supply of hot coffee and cookies; our faculty showed up in droves; but the students were out numbered. The students who attended the coffee hour met professors they hadn't known before. Professors got a chance to see if their students were capable of carrying on a con versation or seeing that their stu dents could keep two eyes open for more than twenty minutes. Too often these coffee hours for the Carolina population have re sulted in the professors of one de partment meeting only professors in their department. That is all very nice, but it isn't what the purpose is. What is the purpose? The purpose is to know the faculty better; as individuals with intelli gence and ideas. You ig a Ride Home. ted Quantity IE EN Carolina Students Enjoy Cup Races By FRANCES LUMPKIN The Carolina Cup Race, held last saturday in Camden, was one of the big events on the Carolina stu bnt's calendar. About noon we left the campus with picnic lunches mnd dark, dark sungla'ses. Among the first spectators to arrive at the track were Terrell Glenn and Bess McCauley, Mary To Gooding, Joe Berry, Jean Crosby and Tiger McLaurin. Ann Bradley and Kemp Hyers were seen greeting some of the' first arrivals. Incidentally, the plaid vest that Kemp was wearing brought many amusing remarks. While strolling around among the cars before the races started we saw Jeanette Dixon, Walt Davis, June Niggel, Buddy Derrick, Chriss Durham, Joe Pearce, Car roll Simms, and Will Middleton en joying a delicious lunch of fried chicken, sandwiches and cokes. As we headed for the rail for the first race we bumped into Suzanne Lewis, Jim Thomas, G. B. Kennedy, Cliff Gaddy, Lawson Yates, and Bob Wright, who were obviously placing small bets among themselves. Between each race people crowded around the paddock to give the horses the once over. Marnie Manning was heard giving tips on the next races to Tom Corouthers, Lewis Howell, Eldon Dye, Barbara Fowler, and Bubba Simpson. The race that brought the big thrill was the fourth, the Carolina Cup race.
