By PAUL PHILLIPS
The second annual South Caro
lina intercollegiate swimming meet
will be held at the university pool
on Saturday, March 8.
Clemson, the defending cham
pions, are favored to win again this
year. South Carolina chances
dimmed when it was learned that
Middleton and Hale have been sick.
Middleton is expected to partici
pate but will be hampered by the
time lost in practice. It is still
doubtful whether Hale will be en
tered or not.
Records are expected to be
broken since both Clemson and The
Citadel tank men have broken last
year's marks in dual meets in the
Carolina pool.
Team honors for the meet are
expected to be close. Carolina split
two meets with The Citadel, but
lost twice to Clemson by close
margins.
State records set last year:
300-yard medley relay: 3:21.4
(The Citadel).
220-yard f r e e style: 2:33.3
(White of Clemson).'
50-yard free style: 25.4 (Bee of
Clemson).
100-yard free style: 55.0 (Hemp
hill of The Citadel).
200-yard back stroke: 2:38.6
(Winder of Carolina).
